Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The game that got me hooked off this sequel.
This game was loaded with high expectations, and in doing that you tend to run into more dissapointments when the game is actually released to find that things aren't quite up to par with the stunningness your mind was creating the game to be..before it came out. Well I'd say that was your own fault, but it's not such the case this time. OF:DR has some of the clunkiest and unresponsive controls I've played in an FPS. It tries to be realistic by giving you a massive open world..but with it's buggy and unresponsive controls and barely any vehicles in sight..it makes for a boring and long trot between objectives. And even when you get your hands on a vehicle, the driving mechanics are horrid. Driving a jeep is like trying to drive a donkey that forgot its legs and improvised by sticking sandpaper in its eyes only to find that had nothing to do with driving. There are tips on how to do your objectives the first time around that display on your screen. It's useless though...it doesn't tell you what button to push to execute it.. It only tells you what common sense told you then leaves you naked to and frustrated to find the button that does the job. You can't sneak up on enemies..you can't even see enemies half the time....and being a long ranged shooter(getting too close to enemy positions is a suicide mission) it doesn't provide you very often with long range weapons..instead your left with 'ok' midrange rifles. The explosions look god awful ugly. I was expecting spectacular explosions..nice bright centers, billowing clouds..lots of debris and good physics. But there practically are no physics..You might see a chunk of metal fly off and if you squint you can see some 'spark' and the billowing clouds look like flat stretched out granny panties......grenades can't get thrown very far..you can't jump...Location after location is hills and grass and trees..with some odd pockets of water...and some mountainess regions. There are some fun locations, like the flats and the volcano. That's about as sex as the games visuals get though..and I'm playing this game maxed out with no slowdowns. As for multiplayer..it's better than the single player....single player is boring as ****. It tries SO hard to be realistic but it just fails at almost every corner......
sigh*
This game is also loaded with bugs.... It's not very polished.... I give it a four for multiplayer....and the mission editor(thanks for that) except..you can't play maps online that you haven't done in single player-_-.
