Great, but not... When this thing gets some patches it will be A LOT better.
Graphics: 5/10
Difficulty: Personally the hardest to date
Gameplay: 9/10
Online: 2/10
The Overall of 7.5/10 is being generous in the hope that patches will come out and make it better but currently standing at a 6/10 with no patching.
The graphics reason is, its nice, you can see the environment as far as you could see in real life, meaning no falling off the edge of an unloaded map. And from a distance it looks good and all, but it fails to deliver up close! I find better graphics up close on my psp playing monster hunter, even FUEL by code masters in a 14 square kilometer map had a better grasp of realism. In short, the bushes are crosses, and no amount of patching is really going to change this poor visual score.
Gameplay is high at 9/10 because, despite the AI screwing up sometimes, its still manages to deliver the tense moments with great accuracy. You'll often find yourself bunkered down behind some sandbags, throwing out orders so the seemingly impossible is finally possible. Not to mention bleeding out from a serious wound adds a lot of realism to it, which is what this game hoped to achieve and did extremely well at it.
Difficulty is extremely hard, I would put it up there past Killzone2 on elite, past Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the hardest difficulty, and Halo3/odst can't even touch it on legendary. The reason? You are automatically on the hardest difficulty damage wise, one shot to the head will kill you, and the computers are very good at it as you will quickly find out. You are often calculating the drop of the bullet over the normal 100 to 400 meters you will find yourself shooting at the enemy from. Not to mention you will find yourself spending 20 minutes setting up for one assault only to be shot in the rear and have to start over at the last checkpoint.
Online is what would seriously bring this game up to par with its hype, thanks to some serious patching... You will often find yourself getting a server error when trying to login and when you do manage to login multiple problems will occur ie; freezing on your friends list (Which is completely separate from your psn/xbox live friend list), unable to set private slots, disconnecting from the host, running for miles only to be flanked and all go to waste, unable to invite the friends you finally managed to add somehow, people disconnecting from you, and the almost necessary need of a microphone in order not to be kicked/ be useful to your team in any amount. I think the only good part of online is the concept of four person co-op like that promised for Lost Planet 2, because you're sure as hell going to need it when you do finally log on.
