First and for most, I was very surprise that Square Enix branded their title together with Wargaming.net. Its not a bad thing though, but its my highest doubt that Square Enix even test the game with Wargaming.net and see how odd the game is.
This game has good graphics, high vehicle details, beautiful shader detail and plenty of the good stuff in recent RTS presentation. Unfortunately the game's graphic is heavily bogged down by its surprisingly high requirement. Its not exactly the kinda of shock and awe game like Company of Heroes, Dawn of War 2 or even Men of War. But it like a whole lot of recent RTS has very limited screen resolution adjustment, which give a wider view with better detail. But this gives a heavy toll to the even meet basic requirement. You will be very unpleased to see all the good graphic have to be tone down just to match the resolution requirement, and unlike most window live games, you can't manually adjust the screen resolution manually or what so ever. Basically, you need a powerful graphic card & better hardrive, if you stuck with a ladtop, buy a better graphic card equiped one, or avoid the game.
The audio of the game is decent, not spectacular, but good enough to make you not pressing the escape button as quickly as those with complete broken english. It somehow deosn't felt right, the narrator talk straight to the point. It felt like the narrator is following dully on a script.
Gameplay, this is the game's worst part, and that you have to endure if your going to complete the whole course. The game uses a capture and take and hold system, which you take a strategic point to generate resouces for income to deplay stronger units, similar to company of heroes. And you get to deploy infantry and even vehicle in groups instead of individual unit. No base construction like Men of War. But this is where similarities ends, The game itselve was badly broken there on. Since there is no limit on how many unit you can deploy, you basically call in more units, and if recources is allowed, call in the strongest unit in numerous numbers such as the Russian IS/KV tank, the German Tiger/King Tiger, and King Tiger and Tiger tank are in a pack of 6! Initially there is some strategy on how to flank and capture enemies stratigic point, but thats just it. Once secure the point, you will basically call in MORE Tigers to hold the point until either is being destroyed by airstrike or by enemies even larger force of heavily armed and armoured tanks. Artillery, airstrike or massive bombartment can create a lot of havoc but consume resouces that otherwise can deplay tanks and assault guns into combat. I've play with my borther and niether of us really wanted to deploy artillery as even artillery strike destroy the unit stationed at the strategic point, are easily replaced with other heavy tanks and immiedietly station them from the nearest spawning point that is close to the captured strategic point. Wasted the fuction of artillery and airstrike resouces that can produce a squad of T-34s. And it is nearly impossible to use infantry as tanks simply shoot and smash them from afar.
The game uses a health bar system, which a whole squad health decrease when being hit by the enemy, this is bad when your certain squad of tanks has lower hitpoint, it has an incredibly high tendency to being destroy by more numerous foes, even if two tiger against 6 Sherman tanks(In history 2 tiger can take on 10-12 Sherman tank). Either you sent them to be destroyed or use them as meat shield for your better equipped tank at the rear. This make the game fustrated as anything can be blow up easily in the game. Which make the game felt very short and yet lack of intense feeling. The game lack the sastifying achievement as even if you actually win the game, as you will see little flanking menuever, little strategy or tactics. Just capture point and deploying MORE tanks until the opponent given up the point or sent in MORE tanks. Making the game lack of virtually no depth at all.
In the nutshell, MORE tanks doesn't meant better game. A good RTS games needed at least flanking menuever or ambush, not sending MORE tanks to kill or being killed. It needed to have depth in order to make the game interesting. To all game developers, please, avoid MORE tanks.
