Great (been there done that) game!

User Rating: 9 | Ori and the Blind Forest PC

Sometimes I wonder what it takes to make great games, and why some fail so miserably. Why there are some obvious mistakes in design that we, as players, can easily point out without being experts on the subject. We are expert testers, granted, but most of us just play them, don't dwell into the design process behind a game.

Then something like Ori and the Blind Forest comes along and maybe sheds some light in the game designing aspect. What is Ori and the Blind Forest? It's a platformer. Is it good? It's great. Is it original? No. Does that matter? In this particular case, no.

When you play Ori and the Blind Forest, you can tell where everything comes from. Child of Light art with Metroid Prime layout with mostly run of the mill powerups. We already been there and done that so why is it good? Is it because it's beautiful to look at? Is it because its controls are tight? Is it because its pace is really strong? Yes yes and yes. They took good elements and made a great game.

Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
