Housemarque has really 'hit the mark' with a whole new adventurous way to put your platforming skills to the test.

User Rating: 9 | Outland PS3
A truly impressive game with amazing animations, authentic visual and sound effects along with a well-crafted storyline all on a vibrant neon lit 2.5D landscape. I personally haven't enjoyed a 2 1/2 dimensional platform game this much since Tomba! back on the good ole PS1. The ability to combine the utilitarian slide and stomp techniques in battle to disorient and/or launch the standard enemies coupled with the artistic use of multi-cultural designs are top-notch. The varying degrees of difficulty with color nature changing areas that test a gamer's honed hand-eye coordination skills really sell the game when it comes to its quest for artistic originality and technical innovation in the ever advancing world of electronic entertainment. The skillful implementation of various skills and strategies to defeat enemies, promotion of unyielding curiosity to find the hidden masks alongside the subtle inspiration to unlock new abilities and powers give you a nice variety to keep your focus on the stage at hand and maintain your gaming interest. Housemarque's subtle use of gradual difficulty progression helps to prepare and train the gamer for greater challenges in the next area; however, the exclusion of helpful hints and tips when facing bosses serves to build mounting frustration and despair when the way to defeat them isn't clearly defined, much less shown. Outland alternates between eye-popping, draw-jopping, hair-pulling and teeth-grinding at varying degrees according to the given challenge at hand. It's not necessarily for the casual crowd, but definitely a keeper for action, adventure AND platform genre aficionados the world over.
