If you're going to update a classic arcade game, this is the way to do it.
First off, it's straight up Pac Man. I think the rules and gameplay of Pac Man are embedded into literally everybody's brain. And Pac Man is just as well known today as he was in 1980. This is because Pac Man's a damn fine game. The basic concept is still there, move Pac Man around, eat pellets and fruit, avoid (and eat) ghosts. But the updates have really added several new elements of gameplay.
The same Pac Man, ghosts, and fruit sprites are carried over, which is a nice touch. Juxtaposed against the new, stylish maze walls, it looks really cool. The new graphics are really sharp and modern. I kinda wish they'd done more with it, such as have the background change to something other than plain black, but it's no biggie.
All the classic sound effects are back, which is awesome. I thought I'd be annoyed by the techno track that plays under every game, but it's not very intrusive and adds to the intensity.
800 points is asking a bit much, but this game is still worth picking up. It's the same old Pac Man, but at the same time, it's not.
