Namco tries the Mario Party thing in this 3D board meets player bored copy.

User Rating: 6.5 | Pac-Man Fever GC
Pac-Man Fever seems to have xeroxed the party game template down to the most miniscule of details. But though it has the formula down, it has failed to capture the incentive to play and the depth to sustain continued play. It has three boards -- or, I should say, only three. It has 30 mini-games -- or, I should say, only 30 minis. It's got only a handful of characters despite the fact that it could have included dozens more. And the board movement is slow and tedious.

The simple truth is that the original Mario Party was a better game and Mario Party 4 is set to demolish Pac-Man Fever in every conceivable way. In a genre that has already been played out to the extreme, Pac-Man Fever brings absolutely nothing new to the table and in fact omits quite a few features and options previously available.

Recommended as a rental only to the most hardcore of Pac-Man, Namco, or 3D board game fans. Everybody else, pass.

Presentation
Includes decent menus, but hardly any characters, only three boards and 30 mini-games. The characters lack it. 6.5/10

Graphics
Couldn't possibly be more average. Decent texture variety between boards is ruined by a surprisingly poor framerate and bad character animation 6.5/10

Sound
Passable tunes mix with subdued sound effects. Nothing special 6.5/10

Gameplay
Average is the nice way of describing it. Boring is probably more accurate. Tedious pace mingles with copy-and-pasted play mechanics. Been here and done that. 7/10

Lasting Appeal
Three game boards and 30 mini-games don't mean a whole lot in this genre, especially when the play mechanics don't offer gamers any incentive to keep going. 6.5/10

Overall: 6.5/10

My Verdict: Screw It
