A worthy sequal.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, released in 2004, is my second favorite title for the Nintendo GameCube topped only by The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It is the sequal to the 2001 Nintendo 64 hit Paper Mario. While both games are fun, I find myself liking this one a little bit more.

In this game, Mario and Peach journey to an island called Rogueport, where Peach is kidnapped... but not by Bowser. She is kidnapped by the X-Nauts, who take her to their base on the moon. Mario is joined by a crew of Rogueport natives as he searches for the seven Crystal Stars. Along the way, he travels to a desert island haunted by a Hispanic explorer, competes in a wrestling tournament, traverses across the sewers, solves a mystery on a train, and even travels to the moon! At many points, the player assumes control of Peach, who talks with the computer, named TEC, and sends Mario hints as to where to go and what to do next. There are also parts where the player assumes control of Bowser in fun little spoofs of the classic Mario games. You can also talk with Luigi and his various sidekicks as you learn about his wacky adventures! There's so much to do in the world of Rogueport, even in the game's aftermath... and yet you'll probably stick to the main plot most of the time. Prepare to journey through the Thousand-Year Door!

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has the same paper-like graphics that the original Paper Mario had. When Paper Mario was first announced (under the codename Super Mario RPG 2) there was a great deal of controversy, as people did not want to play with inferior graphics. However, the graphics do not in any way hinder the fun of the game. in fact, I find it rather amusing. Whatever the case, this is an awesome game and is definitely worth owning.
