While similar to the first Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door proves to be a very enjoyable adventure
The gameplay and system of the game is similar to the first Paper Mario. You have your jump and hammer commands, and when you level up you have the choice of either choosing HP, FP, or BP to increase. Even though the gameplay is quite similar to the first Paper Mario the gameplay is still solid and it still proves to be a great battle system. Another thing that adds to the gameplay are the always cool badges. Just like in the first Paper Mario, badges are used to add to your commands and they are still great. Badges add a lot of variety in the game and it's just plain funner with badges around. Items are still in the game as well and there is also still cooking with the items that make items a ton cooler and more interesting. Though a bad side is that the game is reletively easy, if you've played the first Paper Mario then the second one really shouldn't present to be a problem for you.
Graphics are beautiful and commendable in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Though you would normally think "Paper graphics? man those graphics are going to suck" Right? Nope wrong! The graphics in Paper Mario are truly wonderful and anyone who plays the game can see what I mean.
Alright sound is another department where Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is really strong in. Sound is great and there are really no problems with it. The sound isn't annoying at all and it is always a wise choice to listen to the sound instead of keeping it down. The music is great in the game as well, there is absolutely no song in the game that is despisable. Just like the first Paper Mario, sound proves to be what Paper Mario is always good in.
Alright ,value is also good in this game. The game is somewhat long and it's fun to play through it a couple of times. But, a couple of times really isn't enough, once you play through the game twice or three times you really won't find yourself going back to playing it unless you absolutely love RPG games and you somewhat like Mario of course, since he is the main character afterall.
Personally, I had a blast with the game. I was really addicted the first time I played through it and I just wouldn't stop playing it until I got every single secret and I beat the game to the end. But, if you're one of those people who can only play through a game once then Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door would be more wise for a rent than a buy. However, if you somewhat like rpgs and you somewhat like Mario then Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is definently a game worth buying.
