Just what you'd expect from a 64 bit version of the classic Paperboy.
User Rating: 7.2 | Paperboy N64
Paperboy 64 is only a little reminiscent of the classic Paperboy. For the most part it's an entirely new, updated game. The goal of the game is still to drive around the neighborhood, delivering papers and wreaking havoc with the papers at the same time. But being a N64 game, there's a lot more details than in the classic. The big thing is the variety of neighborhoods. It's not just one straight suburban street, there is a multitude of different environments, enough to keep it interesting. The paperboy (or girl) delivers papers to a typical neighborhood, a beach town, an RV park, a haunted town, a construction site, and many other locales. Each of the locations have their own unique characters, hazards, and interactive pieces of the environment. There is also a storyline to this game, although it's a bit corny. It has to do with aliens, i'll leave it at that. What this game could have used was a minigame of the old Paperboy, but this game is pretty decent. The graphics are very polygonal, but they suffice for this game. The sound is average as well. The gameplay is, as expected, a huge step up from the original. You don't just go one way down the street, you can turn around and go in any direction, and the neighborhoods consist of more than just one straight street. You can also do stunts, and you don't 'die' just from falling down once or twice, you have a life meter which can be replenished by picking up health. This is a fairly easy, enjoyable game that will remind you of the original while maintaining it's own identity. If you're strictly looking for the original Paperboy though, this won't work for you.
