It's paperboy in 3D... perhaps dumbed down a bit.
It does offer some neat ideas, like being able to pull off tricks (although I never saw the point of doing these), and actually adding bosses to the mix. Its also interesting to be able to 'aim' at where youre throwing.
But... that doesn't make up for how bland the game is. There are only 7 levels first of all, which isn't any more than what we got in the first paper boy. Yes, there are varied environments, but the game is awefully short for an N64 game.
Another problem is the level design, which isn't horrible, but they are set up in a non-linear fashion, meaning you can miss a house and come around again. To make up for it, they add in medals, which you can find by hitting objects in the level. For a sequel to a very linear and straight foward classic, this is something I don't think fits in paperboy. Its not suppose to be a free-roamer. It comes down to throwing papers all over the place, which are in abundance in PB64. The difficulty seems to be decided by the health and timer instead of the level design.
In conclusion, the biggest downfall for this game is the length, the rest is mostly nitpicking. It doesn't offer more than an hour or 2 in gameplay.
