OVERVIEW

PaRappa The Rapper is a fun rhythm game. You play as a pup named PaRappa and he is trying to get the girl of his dreams, Sunny Funny. To do this PaRappa decides to win her over with his rap skills and goes on a quest to learn from the best rap masters around, word. Yes, this is a pretty goofy story (and sadly short) but the fun gameplay makes up for the story.

GAMEPLAY

In PaRappa the Rapper, you have a scrolling bar on top of the screen where it tells you which button to push in time with the beat of the song. Each button is a different lyric for each song. If you press the correct button in time with the beat you will get a good rating and the meter increases but if you miss too many notes you will fail the song. Another added feature is that you can add your own freestyle to the beat so that you aren't bored with just hitting the required notes. On top of that you are rewarded for your freestyling skills by going from the Good rating to the Cool rating.

As you progress through the game PaRappa will meet the following rap masters: Master Onion, Mooselini, Prince Fleaswallow, Cheep Cheep, and MC King Kong Mushi. Master Onion teaches PaRappa a kung-fu dojo type rap. Mooselini teaches driver's education rap. Fleaswallow teaches flea market job rap. Cheep Cheep teaches cooking rap. Finally, MC King Kong puts PaRappa's skills to the test at a party. Not only does PaRappa learn how to rap but gets life lessons from the masters.

GRAPHICS & SOUND

Not very good. Everything is 2D and boring in the visuals department.

The game really excels in this area. The music selection is funny, upbeat, and great to listen too. The sound effects are also good.

CONCLUSION

This is a game that you can play over and over again and is a lot of fun in groups. PaRappa is just a fun, upbeat game that is a good buy for the PlayStation. And remember..."Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind..."
