When you first start the game, the intro really doesn't give you enough background on why you're out there. You just see your ship being shot down, apparently by a group of 'mercenaries'. It puts you straight into the action, which is alright because the controls are pretty simple to use (if you play some of the more difficult settings, it can be hard to find a good method to kill people for a while)

Again, the game's story-line just doesn't develop. You merely seem to wander aimlessly through some wilderness, or a building killing everyone and everything you see. This is only salvaged for a bit by Pariah's array of weapons which can all be upgraded. However, the cells which you need for upgrades are scarce and sometimes you just don't know what the best choice is

Despite this games good physics engine (adds to the realism) and decent weapon configuration, I had to stop playing after about 3-4 hours. It was just too repetitive and frankly it's one of those games which has a short life-span

The multi-player feature has some promise; I greatly prefer it over the single-player mode. To begin with, you pick from a small selection of game types and maps (which I believe should have been a little more padded out). Then you get to choose from a variety of players, each having the ability to carry and upgrade two weapons. Vehicles in most games I played were a bit weak; only taking a couple of grenades and some spray from a rifle to dramatically explode!

One thing which increases the life-span of Pariah, is its MAP (Make And Play) mapmaker. Just pick a standard map, and with a few clicks on a very user-friendly interface you can make yourself one great map to share online and use offline

For me this game was alright, but it lacked creativity and boldness. The gameplay and graphics are good (except for the repetitiveness), but the sound could be more noticable to better the atmosphere. Multi-player features are far more fun in my opinion, leaving the single-player campaign rather poor
