Is it just me who thinks this game isn't that great!?
+ Artistic graphics
+ Interesting story
+ Good upgrade system
+ Fun mini games
Negatives
- Repetitive sounds
- The actual gameplay is just so dull
Welcome to my review for Patapon for the psp, first off Patapon is a rythm game which involves commanding your army with beats from a sacred drum, you do this by pushing certain combinations of buttons.
Graphics are very nice and artistic, all soldiers, enemies and backgrounds stand out in a creative way.
Presentation is also good, when your not commanding your army your at your tribes camp where you can easily scrolls through several activites such as mini games, hunts and soldier upgrades.
Music depends on how you play, if you get in a good flow and don't mess up your beats then your army march along making a nice sound, usually tribal drum beats made up of whistles, flutes, horns and drums..
As you progress through the game you recruit certain types of soldiers, fighters, archers and many more.
These can be trained through collecting materials and using them to upgrade their equipment.
I like this feature and think it's one of the few reasons which makes you want to play the game.
You get materials mostly through hunts and sometimes in the main story, hunts are optional and usually easier.
Why is the gameplay so dull? well through the whole game you have only 3 commands! attack, defend and move forward, bassically this then involves a lot of button mashing and repetetive combos.. also every time you type in a combo they make the same few sounds every time, even now the sounds go through my head (pata-pata-pata-pon... pata-pata-pata-pon...pata-pata-pata-pon) this is just plain annoying!
I reccomend this game for anyone who has enough patience and mindless button mashing techniques or is really determened to get to the good parts such as the upgrading and fun mini games.
I hope this review has helped, thanks for reading!
