Perfect Dark is the N64's best game multiplayer or single-player

User Rating: 10 | Perfect Dark N64
Better than Goldeneye or either of the Zelda games or anything on the Playstation, Perfect Dark was the best game of the 32-64 bit generation. The single-player campaign had everything from great AI, incredibly diverse and interesting missions, a great story, and awesome weapons and items. The three modes of difficulty also allowed flexibility as Agent (the lowest) was quite easy and Perfect Agent (the highest) was very very hard. I've played the campaign through countless times and its humor and brilliance never gets old. The games weapons are unbelievable and even today no game has done a better job at making unique and fun to use guns in an FPS. The Laptop Gun especially with the ability to be mounted on a wall as a sentry gun, and the FarSight which gives you the ability to snipe through walls. The multiplayer may be dated today with, obviously, no online play but in its time it was the best offering for deathmatch gaming. The ability to use simulants in gameplay really made it easier to have large scale fights when you were limited to four people. The levels, some borrowed from Goldeneye, were almost all perfect. You could really do a lot to customize the game type and the simulants themselves and commanding those on your team was relatively easy. Co-op mode is as good as you'd expect with the ability to play through single player with a friend making things even more interesting. Counter-op mode had yet to be tried again by another game but it allowed one player to be a bad-guy in the level while the other player went about trying to beat the mission which was very original and enjoyable. Hopefully Perfect Dark Zero can bring this greatness to the next-generation of systems.
