get a 360 controller and this game is awesome. don't buy this game if you don't like anime.
but, for anyone who owns the pc version, get a 360(or similar) controller and use DEFAULT CONTROLS 2, and the game is the way it is was meant to be.
Lets get this out of the way first. I love this game, it has promise and its fun to play when you are in the middle of what it has to offer. That said, theres tons of problems i have with this version of the game.
I think the style of the single player game overall is awesome, aside from 2 Huge things. The voice acting ( all of it ) and the emotes they use for character animations. the voice acting on single player is beyond hideous. the theme song in english, is so so horrible. its so horrible, you will feel like you are 5 times more homosexual for listening to it in its entirety. i wish they didn't even bother hiring a voice actors and had subtitles for the original japanese voice (I dont understand why america almost always screws up their voice casting for japanese interpretations). I can deal with the fact the game "feels dated" . it runs better on my computer because of its simplicity. I can also get my friends with other computers to play with me because not everyone has the money to buy a new computer every year.
Gamespot says the monthly fee is too much to justify. its 10 bucks a month, i dont think thats unreasonable. obviously free is better, but you can't go on the forums and say DUDE WHERE'S MY UPDATE IM PAYING FOR THIS SH*T, unless you pay.
The multiplayer is great, its way more action than you would be used to in an mmorpg. You can dodge attacks and bullets, thats more responsive than 90% of mmorpgs. I can't stand in WoW, swg, darkage etc. when you want to dodge something and your actual real life skill has 0 to do with your dodging skill, its just a math forumula. My only complaint, which is everyone elses, is that there is a lack of content online and they are SLOWLY releasing what should've just been released with the game. But its probalby some big marketing scheme that i'll buy into in the end. If you are a hard core mmorpg'er, you will see all of this game in less than a week and just want more content and probably end up quitting. If you are a casual gamer, or this is not your primary mmorpg, you will be happy with it.
I love anime, but the single player in this game isn't enough to justify buying it because the voice acting is so painful. If i have people in my room when i am playing this, i have to turn the volume down because even my non-gaming friends and family ask "what the heck is that cheesy crap you are listening to?". These are the friends and family i watched every episode of inuyasha around and they didn't really complain that much. So yeah, its that cheesy.
So why do i rate this game so high if i keep bashing it? Because I like where its going and its different. Most mmorpg's are the same system. I played dark age of camelot non-stop for 2 years then i played wow, to find its basically the same thing, with better graphics and worse pvp. I've played lots of mmorpgs and im just sick of the formula and for some reason i can't stand guildwars ( i know im 1 of the 5 people that dont' like it). Phantasy star is an action mmorpg and is good in short bursts ( which i have no self control so it gives it to me with its lack of content, haha.) seriously, i like this game because i dont have to play it all the time to see all of it and its fast paced fun when you are playing.
december 8 they are making a new update and supposedly are going to update it weekly after that. I usually dont' trust mmorpg's and their schedules, but japan already has all these updates anyways, so im trusting sega. so if you read all of this and actually purchase the game. theres only one point i want to get across. BUY A CONTROLLER and use DEFAULT CONTROLS 2 and get used to them, before you say this game is horrible on the pc.
