A shitty bullet hell, flawed and uninspired

User Rating: 2 | Phoenix Force PC

Flaws

  • Way too easy and way too long, with basically no variations in anything. The difficulty curve stays the same until the very last level, where the enemies have more health. With no less than a hundred boring levels, what a waste of time it is…
  • Obtaining the sixth phoenix is a chore. You have to beat 100 times (!) a special level that spawns four random enemies. Some combinations are easier than others but, once again, things never get harder.
  • Actually, only the two first phoenix are useful. It would have made much more sense to have a single playable phoenix with two skills triggered manually.
  • Too much attacks are aimed at the player location. A few others are hardly predictable.
  • Some levels grant more power or movement speed, but power is also gained when leveling up. So these rewards are partially redundant.
  • Getting more power and speed by such small increments is hardly noticeable.

Common Flaws

  • The upgrading system is a terrible design flaw spread by many flash games. First, allowing grinding is never a good idea, especially when the process could be easily automated. Instead, additional difficulty settings or optional challenges should be the way to go.

Inconveniencies

  • You can’t change the game language without removing the default translation file from the game directory.
