This is why I still play videogames

Phoenix Wright Ace attorney is truly a unique game. It's a puzzle game, but it does so in a way unlike any other puzzle game. The puzzles are actually apart of a growing story, and make you feel apart of the game and what is going on. This is one of the best games I've played ever, and is a nice change from the usual shooter/RPG.

Gameplay: The gameplay is simple. There is a lot of reading in this game, so if you don't like a lot of text in videogames, it's not for you. But even still, the gameplay feels very satisfying. You play as a defense lawyer, and must take on several cases (five to be exact). Before court is in session, there are investigating parts where you must talk to people about what happened, and gather evidence to use in court. These investigating moments can get a little boring, and even confusing, especially during the last case, but they aren't too bad. The real fun is in court.
Once in court, there will be a witness who must testify. The gameplay is simple; spot a contradiction between the testimony and the evidence you have. You have to correctly match the specific part of the testimony with the right evidence. Even though the mechanics are simple, it can be difficult to tell if there is a contradiction. Sometimes you have to question the witness instead of objecting, and this is called pressing. Usually it's best to press every statement right away just incase there is nothing to object. Once you do find an objection, it is immensely satisfying, and the game does a great job of making you feel like a real defense attorney.

Story: The main draw of the story is all the characters. They have quirky and goofy personalities, and emotional back stories. The text is usually funny and I laughed several times. The cases, however, aren't as good. There are a total of five, and each one is a murder case. Luckily, each murder is pretty different, so the cases don't feel too redundant. The main problem with the cases is that they are pretty predictable. I was never surprised by who the real murderer was. I understand the game is about being an attorney, not a mystery detective, but I would have still liked to see a plot twist here and there. Even still, the story is good enough to keep you interested in the characters and to see how the case unfolds along the way.

I had lots of fun with this game. It's a classic DS title that all owners should have if they don't mind reading and like thinking.
