Command an army in Nintendo style.

Pikmin is a light real time strategy game from Shigeru Miyamoto, a man behind Mario and Zelda.

You play as Captain Olimar, who travels in space, but gets hit by a meteor and crash lands on a planet, which atmosphere is filled with poisonous gas called oxygen. Olimar’s respiration device has air left for only 30 days and at that time frame he has to collect all the missing parts of his ship in order to get back home. In this mission Olimar receives help from a strange species which he calls pikmin.

Right from the beginning you’ll notice that the planet Pikmin looks a lot like planet Earth and it has a very colorful Super Mario Sunshine look in it. Characters and environments doesn’t look real, but they look nice and lovable. Sound gets boring after a while, because your pikmin will say the same things over and over again and the music is not much better either. Nothing you can’t get use to though.

Pikmin has good controls in it and Olimar commands three different types of pikmin: red ones can stand fire, yellow ones can be thrown higher than others and blue ones have gills so they can survive in water. Unfortunately the exploration element suffers from the strict 30 day time limit and forces you to focus in the essential and to use multi tasking. The best way to get results is to use your pikmin troops in more than one task at the same time. This can be pretty intense, because you’ll have to run from one place to another in order to give orders. Pikmin is also short experience and it will take somewhere around 10 hours to play through.

Pikmin is a unique strategy game in Nintendo style worthy to experience.
