Basically you start out with three balls, press the A button to shoot them at the start of the game, and use the left and right triggers to activate the bumpers with which you hit the balls. There are three total maps that come with the download, and there are more maps available as downloadable content.
Additionally there is a multiplayer option where you can battle your friends online.
Compared to real pinball machines, Pinball FX, is rather difficult to handle at first. Balls sometimes bounce off the back of the boards in certain areas that make them impossible to hit when they come back down. Additionally, once you achieve a multiball, the balls sometimes move so fast that it's impossible to keep up with them.
However, these few negative aspects are few and it's possible to avoid such problems in-game with practice. If you're looking for an entertaining arcade game as close to the real game of pinball, then Pinball FX is the correct choice for you to make.
