After 5 Years, Did The PS3 Turn Out As A Console To Be Remembered, Or To Be Thrown Over To The Pile Of 3DO's And CD-I's

It as been five years since the PS3 was first released, as such I can't review it like it was back in '06, it has come quite far since then. Instead of structuring this like a standard review, I will be doing it as more of a "5-Years-Later-View". So, how was the PS3 during the first half of the "10-year" lifecycle?

2006
"Overconfident C.A.T.S."
What's the most expensive launch price for any system? Perhaps the 3DO is the most expensive, at nearly $900, or maybe it's the Neo-Geo? Whatever you decide on, you will at one point consider the Playstation 3. The PS3 was launched from anywhere between $399 all the way up to $599! Aside from that, the system was large and had an insane 4 USB ports! And nearly half the world didn't get it until 2007. Not to mention Sony had put little thought into games, they were just thinking: " They'll buy our system anyways! Were selling PS2's like free beer!"

2007-2008
"Were Cool, Right?"
This is when Sony realized that they had messed up. They started trying to pull themselves together with a series of price drops that moved them to a more "wallet-friendly" price. They also tried to push more publishers onto their system.

2009
"Was Your Console Both Future-Proof AND Crappy At Launch? We Don't Think So!"
Say what you will about the PS3 when it first launched, but it was built to last. Not "last" in the sense that if your kid decides he wants to use it as a cup holder it will still work. "Last" in the sense of 5 years after launch, this system will be using all the current technology. 2009 was the year that the PS3 truly started doing well. It dropped to the price point of $299 and was upgraded with the PS3 Slim. Not to mention exclusive titles like Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank.

2010-2011
"Kickin Microsoft's Halo-Fixated Butt, And Taking Names!"
This was the year that Sony really pushed the PS3. They hammered us into a fanboy-loving zombie walk of exclusives! Yet they still couldn't beat Microsoft, but only by 2 million units. Uncharted 3 and inFamous 2 lead the charge attempting to prove that Sony's still got it.

The Future…Kinda
"PS9 Everybody!"
Whatever happens next to the Playstation brand, the PS3 may always be remembered as the little system that could. Now who's up for the Last Gaurdian, wait, its not out yet…
