The Pokemon formula is still quite fun and addicting; why can't they speed up the gameplay already?
The plot and world are still super kiddy, super cutesy. I wish they could adult up pokemon at least enough so that those of us who first got into it when we were kids could still play the games without feeling like a brain-dead 12 year old. The plot moves so incredibly slow. There is no way to disable battle animations to speed up battles. To top it off, your character plods along at an extremely slow pace which is made only moderately better once you get the running shoes and then the bike.
The new pokemon have been fun so far. As I've mentioned, I haven't played since Blue so some of the more outlandish creature types have me intrigued from the strategical aspect. For example, all 3 starting pokemon aren't exactly hard counters to their classic weakness anymore because they all three either pick up a move or type to be super effective right back to the guy who would normally beat them. Plus, it's possible to have the entire pokemon library to date on this game, which is quite impressive and a collectionist's wet dream.
I just wish they could speed up the formula, just a little bit. I am roughly 40 hours into the game and only have 6 gym badges of 8 possible. While it was quite fun to reimmerse myself in a childhood guilty pleasure, I find that the slow pace puts me to sleep nowadays when I could be playing something else that is equally as fun but gets to the point faster.
