A fitting end to my Game Boy playing experience.

Pokémon Gold and Silver versions were very interesting in their new concepts such as time of day, moving Pokémon such as Entei, Raikou and Suicune, and adding a “continent” to the original “continent” so now there is Kanto and Johto, seeing as how for three games they merely used Kanto. Though I do not view Yellow as a true sequel but rather an appetizer of sorts before the main course, metaphorically speaking of course.

And though Silver and Gold were true sequels, they were where I decided to stop as they had once again left out the final Pokémon, Celebi, and failed to rectify the omission of Mew, the final Pokémon from the last three versions. And indeed they made it so if you want to “Catch ‘Em All” you have to either “Buy ‘Em All” or have a friend or friends who have the versions you don’t, and most likely you’ll end up buying all of them as you’ll find that friends aren’t always reliable.

The basic concept behind this game, for all of you new to this series, is to go around the world and capture all of the creatures in these things called Pokéballs which magically shrink the Pokémon into red light and trap them in the ball until you feel like using them to do battle for you against other Pokémon. There is also an objective to beat all of the “gyms” where Pokémon “trainers” dwell and challenge you to battle when you approach, and then when you win you get a badge from that particular gym. The ultimate goal behind challenging these gyms is to challenge the “Pokémon League” which is basically four Pokémon trainers and someone known as the “Champion.” You must do all of these battles consecutively in order to beat the Pokémon League. After that is when you must capture all of the Pokémon in the world which will take easily over 100 hours and probably, collectively between all of the versions, more than 400 hours. I personally have spent over 800 hours on these games and all I can think is how I have wasted my life. Well, there’s no use crying over something you can’t change, right?

Still, overall, these were good games and very time consuming encase you’re looking for something to take up a lot of time. These games are also highly addictive and you’ll probably be playing it when shouldn’t as well. And just encase you’re wondering I caught, traded or received 235 out of the 251 Pokémon in the game.
