SoulSilver seems a bit too easy compared to the original. However the charm of the original is still intact.

Pokemon Soulsilver is the remake of what some consider to be one of the great Polemon games (excluding the originals). Veteran players will be pleased to know that SoulSilver for the most part is true to the original. It just feels a bit too easy...

Like the original, and every other game in the series, SoulSilver is about the adventures of a boy (or a girl) in the Pokemon land of Johto. Players will find themselves catching, training and battling there way to becoming a Pokemon Master, and to complete their Pokedex, a small computer encyclopedia of every Pokemon, updated every time you see or catch a new Pokemon. It's a tried and true recipe, one that has been with the franchise ever since Pokemon Red and Green in 1996. This time however, the number of Pokemon is getting a bit ridiculous. With Silver and Gold, there were 251 Pokemon to capture and train, a good number. In SoulSilver, there is almost double that. Sure it stretches the completion of the Pokedex out, but the Pokemon from the later games feel dull and boring, and not nearly as creative as those from the first two regions. There are a lot of evolutions of Pokemon from the first two regions that weren't supposed to have any evolutions, and their evolutions feel tacky and unoriginal. Also the availability of the Legendary Pokemon doesn't make them feel quite so Legendary... The challenge and fun with the original games was having to trade with your mates to complete with your Pokedex.

SoulSilver adds a bunch of features to the franchise. However whether they are new or just features removed from previous games is questionable. Features like Pokemon walking behind you from example aren't new, for Pokemon Yellow had the Pikachu following your every move. The newest feature of SoulSilver is the PokeWalker, which is half pedometer, half tamagotchi. You beam your Pokemon onto the PokeWalker, and as you walk around, your Pokemon grows and levels up. In theory its a nice addition, but it feels like its been tossed in as a selling feature.

Get this game by all means for the nostalgia value, or if your a fan of the series. But if your looking for new features or a revolutionary new Pokemon or RPG, give this one a miss.
