Nostalgic... but it's the same exact thing.

User Rating: 8.5 | Pocket Monsters SoulSilver DS
I will be honest here.

I was pretty hyped when this game was coming out even though it was the same old same old again.

I also got it for the Pokewalker.

Then I realized that it wasn't all cracked up to be.

LET'S GO:

*Storyline:

- When did Pokemon ever have a storyline...? It's the same thing as the original Pokemon Silver. You collect 16 badges and stop Team Rocket and so on. There's not much originality but that's for mainly all of Pokemon. You start off with three starters from Johto: Cyndaquil, Totodile and Chikorita.

*Graphics:

- A huge graphical update when the first Pokemon Gold/Silver came out. Of course, it was made on the GBA and didn't have the capability of what the DS has today. The graphics were okay and the environments were well designed. I liked how our Pokemon followed us around.

Rating out of 5: 5 (Let's be honest here, it looks better than it did back then.)

*Music:

- The Pokemon music is slightly better now... there's not much to say here...

*Gameplay

- It's still the same formula and still works today. Choosing Pokemon and battling it with whatever moves it has is the main idea. If you're really serious about Pokemon, you would learn how to EV train and look for the best IVs with the nature you desire. This helps maximize your Pokemon to it's full potential. The point is not to get to 100 and that's it but it's to get to 100 with your Pokemon at it's full capabilities, the strongest/fastest, whatever you desire. It's also not all about legendary pokemon so... throw that out of your heads, people who carry it! The Pokemon community is pretty huge.

Value:

- I think Pokemon SoulSilver/HeartGold is well worth 35 bucks when I first got it. The Pokewalker was interesting with its pedometer. It tracks your steps and allows for one Pokemon to walk with you. You can earn items and catch Pokemon in the Pokewalker. That was a interesting system. You can also trade gifts with other people who have a Pokewalker. It's a little awkward when people actually see the Pokewalker attached to your belt so I would cover it up just in case. Pokemon is always replayable due to the fact that you want to "catch them all!" and that you can always join the Pokemon Battling Community if you want a challenge.

TL;DR:
Storyline: 3.5 out of 5
Graphics: 5 out of 5
Music: 4 out of 5
Gameplay: 4.5 out of 5
Value: 4.5 out of 5

Total of: 21.5/25 = 0.86 * 10 = 8.6 (8.5 for GS)

Verdict: Get it if you haven't converted yourself to a Pokemon fan. If you are, I would say you don't have to get it.
