One thing that's definitely notable about the leap from 8 bit video games to 16 bit video games, is the fact that many video games definitely took advantage of the benefits that 16 bit technology was able to offer them. For instance, 8 bit technology made enemies artificially difficult by making their movements erratic; difficult to hit, and hard to actually destroy! With 16 bit technology, video games were able to change their tactics by making enemies more genuinely difficult; often by putting MANY enemies on-screen at the same time! It's not so much that this game is really THAT difficult, it's just that the enemies hit HARD; and their movements are kind of hard to predict, even WITH the benefit of 16 bit technology. While the story is simple; as the title suggests, you (and a friend, if you brought one), are a Prisoner Of War, and you have to break out of an enemy prison camp and escape to freedom; accomplishing this goal is anything BUT easy! While you CAN pick up knives and guns that the enemies can occasionally drop, you can only THROW a knife once; and guns have limited ammo that can't be refilled, though you still can HIT with the gun when the ammo runs out! While this game allows you to use the traditional punches and kicks that many other beat-them-up games of the late 1980's offered; your best bet for more easily taking down the many nameless mooks, is to master the art of the jump kick; as it is able to more quickly (and safely) take down enemy mooks than any other method. The graphics are pretty good by early 16 bit standards, as is the music, sound, and controls; it's just the sheer difficulty (especially if you're playing alone), of the game, that prevents the game from scoring any better. But whether you manage to beat the game by yourself or with a friend, you can consider yourself a TRUE video game expert! Enough said, true believers!
