The Prince is back, and every bit as good as we remember.

I originally played Prince of Persia on an old macintosh back in the mid 90s. I remember it as being innovative, hard, and really fun.

Not much has changed.

Unless you consider the incredible update in graphics. The HD update looks beautiful. Unfortunatly I never got to play the Sands of Time series so, for me, this game was a wonderful return to the parkour-filled adventures I remember so fondly. Animations are sharp and clear enough to really give you a thrill when you fly over spikes or triangle jump off of a wall.

Much like its predecessor, however, the flaw in PoP is an imprecise control scheme which can cause critical losses of seconds as you attempt to get him to stand or stop exactly where you need him to. This is especially important to a game like PoP because one mistake can be a fatal one. I acknowledge this is a part of the game, an intentional part, but if the controls were just a bit tighter then it would be easier to accept these accidents as true accidents and not the result of a faulty control scheme.

One thing that PoP captures in its remake is the difficulty level. Sword play is hard. It seems as much as left to chance as to any level of talent, but it adds a level of unpredictabilty that keeps every playthrough fresh and entertaining.

Like its ancestor the game gives you a 1 hour time limit to save the princess. In an era of complaint for any game that logs in under 6 hours its a welcome respite.

All in all Prince of Persia is about as close to a perfect game as you can get. I wish I could give it a 9.75 instead of having to deduct a half a point for the sketchy response on the controls but c'est la vie.

For 10 dollars this is a steal. One of the best games to ever hit XBL Arcade.
