User Rating: 9.4 | Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time XBOX
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is definitely worthy of carrying around the PoP name. Unlike the previous 3d incarnation of the franchise, Sands of Time captivates the player the entire time through with a really enjoyable and fun experience. Graphically, the game is a joy to watch. While it doesn't run at 60 fps or have the high poly count of other games, the world comes to live with beautiful textures, an oversaturated dream like look, and environments that are fun to interact with as well as logical in progression. Sounds are top notch as well, with various SFX heard as the prince runs through the environment. The music is ambient and subtle until combat kicks in - where it tries to pick up the pace. I didn't pay *too* much attention to the music, but it never bothered me so that must be a good thing :) Gameplay wise, people have various opinions of course. The game is short - 8-10 hours or so, however, with all these games coming out I actually prefer this so I can play it entirely. Combat is not 'floatie' in my opinion - I think more than anything combat and all the movement just feel like an extension of your hand - it's really easy to execute a good series of attacks. It does become drawn out towards the end, but creatures begin to become more difficult and you can't just simply run up a guy and back swipe him. Camera occasionally gets in the way, but nothing too bad. The most important thing though was that every single room and puzzle I progressed through in the game was enjoyable and rewarding once you figured it out. Overall, I found the game to just be really, really fun. I'm a die-hard PoP fan so I am glad to see they carried over a lot of the concepts and then some from the original 2d games (which both are also included as extras).
