Great return to the Sands Of Time atmosphere, but lacking technically and in storytelling.

User Rating: 8.6 | Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones PS2
Ah, Prince Of Persia, you have come back. Sands Of Time was perfect, Warrior Within: awesome, Two Thrones: crazy awesome. Two Thrones is the last game in the Sands Of Time trilogy gracing the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Story: Two Thrones continues after the alternate ending in Warrior Within, where the Dahaka is dead and the Prince and Kaileena return to Babylon. On his return, Babylon is invaded by an unknown army ruled by an unknown ruler. Kaileena is captured and killed with the Sands Of Time being released and the Prince being tainted by them. Now he has an alter-ego (think of the Hulk/Bruce Banner kind of situation) which he transforms into during certain "stressing" situations. Now the Prince must find the man responsible for the fall of his kingdom and try to find a way to rid of the Dark Prince. But now they must work together to reach a common goal. 8/10

Graphics: Two Thrones uses the same engine that the other two games have used. It is starting to show it's age, I'll tell you that. The character model of the Prine and Dark Prince, look great. But the other characters seem to have been rushed or didn't have enough detail put into them. There is some framerate issues here and there. Thankfully no graphical glitches that plagued Warrior Within. The environments all have a gold tint and really do look savaged by war. The CG scenes are great but the Prince looks really weird to me. Just weird looking. I do have to mention though that one certain female character has jaggies all over her. 8/10

Sound: Here's some problems. The Prince's actors are great. But Kaileena's actor is too soft. Even with the TV at max and the sound connections correct. Sometimes the lines just don't play at all. The music is also very annoying. When you fight and in cutscenes, there seems to be only two songs in the whole soundtrack. The battle theme, and the main theme. I don't remember even hearing any other tracks. 8/10

Gameplay: The gameplay is what really matters here. The Prince is back and he is pissed. The Free Form Fighting System (from now FFFS) comes back from Warrior Within and is a welcome addition. New to the combat is the Speed Kill system. The Prince only has a dagger in his hand and needs to sneak past guards and rely on his acrobatics to survive. When you approac an enemy undetected, a white glowing will appear on the screen. Here' you press the Speed Kill button. The Prince will enter a gruesome buttom mini-game where you press buttons when prompted with by a glowing dagger. If you do this right, you'll kill him. If not, you have to fight him with FFFS. The Dark Prince adds more depth to combat with his main weapon the Daggertail, a chain weapon similar to Ivy from Soul Calibur II or Kratos from God Of War. The Dark Prince's Speed Kills are just repeated button presses that strangle the dude. If you're above hanging off of a chain then you hang the dude. The Dark Prince has some additions to his platforming with swinging, and using chains to pull things. The Prince has all his normal platforming moves and they deliver. New are Chariot Races that you have to participate in to outrun of stop an enemy. There's only two, that's just wrong. Left me wanting more. The boss fights have new Speed Kills incorporated to at more depth that just slash away. There's also these portals called Sand Portals where you gain Sand Points (to unlock extras), get new Sand Tanks, or new Sand Powers. If you alert the guard, he stabs his sword into it to call reinforcements. You have to kill the main guy to stop the risk of reinforcements. Same old gameplay that I loved. 9/10

Value: Really short game. I beat it in about I think, like 4 hours on my first playthrough. The extras can all be unlocked in the first playthrough. What you can try though is Speed Runs (play through the fastest you can without stopping for health bonuses and stuff), or just play again for fun. Okay. 8/10

Rent Or Buy: Want a good action adventure game? Rent it. Prince of Persia fan? Buy it. Simple as that.
