combining the superior atmosphere and storytelling of Sands of Time with the Gameplay and graphics of Warrior Within

User Rating: 8.1 | Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones PS2
If you've been following the PoP series, then you were either disappointed or pleased by Warrior Within, the second game in the series, which had a thin plot that reeked of trying too hard, and completely failed attempt at creating a dark atmosphere. The charming yet somewhat bratty prince, a very realistic character in the previous game, was replaced with a soul-less, groaningly poor attempt at making an angsty badass. Yet, almost ironically, this change was accompanied with an improved (but slightly overused) combat engine, an overall longer campaign, and better environmental puzzles. Ubi-Soft almost apologizes for the disappointed fans with The Two Thrones, this game combines the best aspects of the two games together. If you've played both of the previous games, you know what to expect, but it's still a worthwhile expierience despite that, and builds up to a conclusion that will be extremely satisfying to anyone who has played the trilogy from the beginning. Sadly, I don't have much time to review this game, so I can only tell you in brief that the gameplay is almost exactly like Warrior Within, which is a big weakness, but still entertaining, the big difference being speed kills. The story doesn't manage to pack the emotional punch and well done romance that Sands of Time was prided on, but it comes close, and the ending will eventually make up for any flaws. The graphics are the exact same from Warrior Within, with slightly improved character models, these graphics end up coming off as pretty average. The game isn't really too long, or too short, and it should take about 15 hours, while also providing a reasonable challenge. The music is one of the game's strongest points, and is absolutely gorgeous on a regular basis, the voice acting is pretty good too, and Yuri Lowenthal returns along with the Prince's personality.

Overall, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones will please any fans of the series, but it's just so unfortunate that you might end up with feelings of deja vu.
