Professor Hershel Layton is back once again.
In this adventure Professor Layton and Luke find themselves in a strange situation with an even stranger villain. (I'm trying to avoid spoilers here.) London is not how they remember and it will take all their wits and help from the great supporting cast to return the city to normal.
There are many returning faces such faces such as Flora, Inspector Chelmey, Barton, and Don Paolo. They help the game feel familiar in a good way and the story builds upon the characters in a way the previous games never dared.
The ending of this game is truly outstanding. It ties up a lot of loose ends and you will have tears in your eyes. The story does go through a couple rough patches in the middle but when it is all explained you will forget the small confusion. Emotions pour out of these characters like never before and Layton faces a number of personal hardships from the past, future and present that would cripple any less of a man.
The puzzles are harder in this game but more varied. You aren't going to have to get stuck on the same puzzle five different times anymore. There is a new super coin to help you out as well. I will say that I found the hints less helpful this time as compared to the other two games.
The cut scenes that are unlike anything else on the DS are back and better than ever. There are more of them and they show all the most important parts of the story. There is also voice acting outside of these scenes to make a bit less reading.
Some of the charm of the game is worn off by not doing much new but that's okay as this game features the best story of the series. I highly recommend this game to all DS owners as it is a prime example of what the system can do.
