At first I had scrapped the thought of writing something about the Bones season finale A Pain in the Heart in my blog and do just the review. But a lot of things don't belong into a review so I decided to post them here. This is not a review about the episode itself but rather about the aftermath.
Right now there are heated debates about this episode raging across the net. And I understand completely why people are disappointed, sad and angry for what the show did to the Zack character. Was it right to do this?
Not necessarily, but it's the producer's choice and somewhere in all this mess there will be a reason for this, apart from the shock value. I'm not surprised by this, however, every show that is on the air right now or has been in recent years did a stunt one way or the other (at least the ones I was or am still watching) and after 3 seasons, I guess HH (or FOX) decided now it's time to shake up Bones. Is that a good thing? That remains to be seem.
But some reactions are just wrong to me. Firstly, I understand that if Zack was your favourite character, you feel it more than someone who just watched and liked him. I really liked him and I think EM is a terrific actor. But to say Zack was the heart and the center of the show is just wrong from where I am standing. That sounds like people are watching a different show. To me the heart is still there, it's Bones and Booth. Of course this is an ensemble show, but in the end it's their show. "They are the center."
Another thing I don't get is the hatred towards the other cast members, against ED and DB for doing nothing in their capacity as Co-Producers. Or why the whole cast didn't go on strike as soon as they learned that one of their own is going to leave not voluntarily. Huh??? This is a business and you don't bite the hands that feeds you.
And I am quite appalled to read some seething posts of hatred and exclamations of getting the show cancelled ASAP. How can people, who claim to be die-hard fans, turn their back on the show, because of ONE cra*** (in their opinion, not mine) episode? It should take more than that, but that's just me and I speak from my own experiences of being disappointed and turned off by shows I used to love.
It is not my intention to offend anyone with this, I just needed to get it off my chest. What I said here doesn't apply exclusively to this forum but to others as well.
I am looking forward to S4 of Bones, bring it on!!
