LB ... Awesome Season Finale!

I was so sad to see LB go this past Monday. I cried for the entire finale (partly out of sadness, and partly at how awful the 3rd season is likely to be). LB will never be the same without Kristen ("The Tease"), Jessica ("The Whore"), Jason ("The Badboy"), Stephen ("The Sweetheart"), and LC ("The Girl I Just Don't Like"). Next season looks very disappointing, but we'll have to wait and see just how disappointed we'll be. It'll be a bittersweet feeling in the end knowing that everyone's moved on and that Laguna is changed forever. I guess now, all we have are memories. Sincerely Nostalgic, - Ciara

"Guess Who's Here? - My Baby Daddy!"

Nicole Ari "Kodjoe" (no longer "Parker") was on Montell today. The interview was soooo extremely cute. She co-hosted. Boris was there as well, and she got to interview him. I swear, I grow to love Nicole as an actress and as a person more and more each day. She's my favorite. She looked so beautiful on Montell too. Just glowing. I got my dad to tape it for me so, if you don't mind, I think I might just have to take a sit down and watch it again. Chao! Sincerely Fanatical, - Ciara

Commander-In-Chief? Not So Sure Anymore .....

I really wasn't as into Commander-In-Chief this week as I usually am. It bored me. And Mrs. President's kids are about to drive me up a wall. I also read that their ratings are kinda slipping from week to week. I'm not surprised. Sincerely Unimpressed, - Ciara

The Gospel ... Awesome Movie!

I went to see The Gospel last night with my mom, and I must say, that movie is absolutely worth the price of admission and more. I got goosebumps from all of the beautiful gospel music I heard. From Yolanda Adams to Fred Hammond to Donnie McClurkin. All of the gospel greats made special appearances (I was expecting to see Kirk Franklin in it too, but that's another story). Did I mention Boris Kodjoe? Boris did a fantastic job in the film. Considering he is Jewish and has never been exposed to the "gospel" way of life, I think his performance was outstanding. Everyone, religious or not, she make an effort to see the movie. It will change your life. Sincerely On A Jesus High, - Ciara

Commander-In-Chief ..... I love it!

For me, the best new show I've seen all season is NBC 's new drama Commander-In-Chief. I am fascinated by it. It stars actress Gena Davis as the vice president who succeeds the current president when he dies. She is absolutely awesome in the show. It keeps you glued to the television and incapable of moving from the edge of the seat. It anyone has not seen it yet, I truly advise you to give it a shot. Sincerely In Love, - Ciara

Soul Food on Showtime ..... Again.

I am so glad that Showtime got wise and decided to re-air the fifth season of Soul Food. Even though they're only doing this because of their new show Barbershop and the fact that both shows were created by the same people, I'm not complaining. At least I get a chance to see my favorite show and say goodbye to it once and for all. Everytime it comes on I tape it. Now I can add all of my favorites that I haven't gotten a chance to see to my collection. Sincerely Grateful, - Ciara

I got a POOL!

Hey everybody! I just got back from camp a few hours ago. I had an "okay" time (the last 24 hours were crap), but I'm really happy about being home. I was greeted with a big surprise as I arrived at my front door. My mom and dad ordered me a pool! It's really pretty and big, and I love it. It's been filling with water all day, and it's gonna continue all night. My dad said it might be finished filling by tomorrow afternoon, and I can't wait. I've got my bathing suit picked out and everything already. It was a great surprise, and I'm so happy. :) Sincerely Estatic, - Ciara

Lil' Kim is DEFINITELY Going To Jail ...

NEW YORK — Rapper Lil' Kim was sentenced to a year and a day in prison by Judge Gerard Lynch at Manhattan's U.S. District Court Wednesday afternoon. The rapper was also fined $50,000 and will serve three years' probation after her sentence. She must turn herself in to authorities on September 19. Hip-hop's Queen Bee — a nickname bestowed on the diminutive rapper by her ex-boyfriend, the late Notorious B.I.G. — was facing up to 20 years in prison, but as expected, Lynch's sentence was less severe (see "Lil' Kim Won't Get Maximum Sentence, Expert Predicts"). Kim was convicted on three counts of perjury and one count of conspiracy in March. Kim's assistant, Monique Dopwell, was also convicted on perjury charges, although she was not sentenced on Wednesday (July 6). Kim (born Kimberly Denise Jones) wept and held a Bible as she asked the judge for leniency before her sentencing, according to an eyewitness. She admitted to her crime (which eliminated any chance of appealing the conviction, although the sentence can be appealed) and said she was sorry. "I take complete responsibility for my actions," she said. "I testified falsely to the grand jury and during the trial. I know it was wrong. I am a God-fearing, good person, and this is the toughest thing I've ever been through." The judge lambasted her for being dishonest, saying her lies were an insult to him and to the court. "[Providing] false testimony under oath undermines our system of justice," said Lynch, who described Kim's actions as "blatant perjury," with "clear" intent. "It's a serious offense ... and the crimes you covered up were serious, indeed." The rapper issued a statement two hours after learning her fate: "I would like to thank all of my supporters who have stood by my side throughout this entire ordeal. The many prayers and hundreds of letters of support, e-mails and kind words that have poured in have been overwhelming and critical in helping my family, loved ones and myself stay strong during this time of need. Today was a very difficult day for me, but I am no stranger to adversity and will do whatever I need to do so that I can continue to work hard and give back to my family, amazing fans and community." When she arrived outside the courthouse on Wednesday morning, Kim was surrounded by a crush of TV news crews and reporters. Fans cried out "We love you, Kim!" even as menacing security guards ordered them to "get out of the f---ing way." Kim maintained throughout the trial that Damion Butler, one of her co-managers at the time of the incident, was not by her side when shots rang out in front of the radio station; security-camera footage later proved he was — a direct contradiction of what she'd told a federal grand jury (see "Lil' Kim Found Guilty Of Lying To Grand Jury, Investigators"). She also told the court she was unable to positively identify a photo of another man who was believed to be involved in the shooting; both that man — Suif "Gutta" Jackson, a member of her former group Junior M.A.F.I.A. — and Butler later confessed to firing on rap group Capone-N-Noreaga, and pleaded guilty to gun charges as part of a plea bargain (see "Lil' Kim's Bodyguard Sentenced To 12 Years For His Role In Shootout"). Other members of Junior M.A.F.I.A., including Antoine "Banger" Spain and James "Lil' Cease" Lloyd, took the stand during the trial and testified for the prosecution that they, too, had witnessed Butler and Jackson with Kim at the time of the shooting (see "Lil' Cease Says He's No Snitch For Testifying Against Kim"). On Wednesday afternoon, L. Londell McMillan, Kim's attorney, said in a statement, "Today Kim showed compassion, courage and dignity for herself and her friend Monique Dopwell. She accepted responsibility and will move forward with her life. The Honorable Judge Lynch was thoughtful yet deliberate in his sentencing and as the judge noted, so many acts of violence and unsolved murders plague our society and hip-hop. "Kim's conviction in this particular case is unfortunate," the statement continued, "yet ironically so many crimes that have happened in the hip-hop community remain unsolved and in my opinion, the overall focus and scrutiny within hip-hop. The entire hip-hop community should pay attention to the results of this case and honor the strength and sacrifice that Kim has made." — Chris Harris, with additional reporting by Jem Aswad This is a very sad day for hip-hop indeed. I wish Kim well, and I know she and her family will persevere during this time of adversity. Sincerely Sincere, - Ciara

What the Fourth of July Means To Me . . .

The fourth of July means a lot of different things to me -- it is a time to be grateful to those who sacrificed their freedom so that I might have mine. A time to pay homage to those who gave their lives as the ultimate price in the name of freedom, and a time to remember those who were scarred and maimed, some physically, all mentally, while fighting for that freedom. It is a time to think about the high cost of this freedom and the fact that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. It is a time to take inventory of our elected government officials in this land of the free and home of the brave. And, it is a time to feel sadness and disgust in the inventory results. It is a time to reflect on the fact that we have a president who is a draft dodger with no regard for the men left behind in a war in which his only participation was, in protest against it. It is a time to feel shame as a conscienceless ambassador and a despicable Senator, both of whom are former POWs...are now selling out their fellow POW/MIAs left behind in Southeast Asia. It is a time to feel renewed sorrow for the families of those left behind, and to make a more concerted effort to seek answers for them. It is a time to forget the old adage "nothing is written in stone", and a time to remember the more than 58,000 names written in stone on The Wall. Most of all it is a time to remember that memories are a gift from God, and should be treasured as a lasting legacy. It is a time to remember that memories continue to bring comfort, joy, and healing, and they enable our lost loved ones to live forever in our hearts and minds. It is a time to find renewed hope in activism, in fighting to give purpose to our losses. It is a time to understand that holding on to hope requires active participation and, that hope comes in small steps, and we must seize each one of them. It is a time to give thanks to God for giving us the gifts of memories, hope, and most of all . . . love.
Happy 4th of July, Everyone.
Sincerely Free Indeed, - Ciara
