Tohru & Kyo end up together in the manga!!!

Later in the manga... Tohru and Kyo fall in love with each other, but when she confesses her feelings to him, consumed by guilt over Kyoko's death, Kyo tells her it's a delusion and runs off.

Tohru goes to follow him, but is confronted by Akito, who has heard the whole thing, and tries to stab Tohru. Akito stops however, when Tohru tells Akito how she now knows how it feels to be left behind, causing Akito to flash back to the previous banquet, where Akito was all alone, even though everyone was there. Tohru wants to start anew with Akito, since the way they met was so poorly done. After a bit more encouragement, Akito extends her hand to Tohru, just as the ground beneath Tohru crumbles, causing Tohru to fall. Fortunately, Akito starts screaming for help, which brings Shigure and Yuki running. They bring Tohru back to the house and call an ambulance. Kyo also comes back. He starts crying and asking her not to die. For a moment she regains consciousness. She tells him that she's alright, but it sounds almost like she's saying goodbye. He tells her to stop talking and that he understands. Then, he gives Tohru what's probably her first kiss.

Luckily, Tohru survived the fall, and was recently released from hospital. However, on seeing Kyo (who had come to take her home) she blushed and pelted off in the opposite direction. She had only been semi-conscious when he had kissed her, so she thinks she's been rejected. Kyo says he's the faster runner, and now he is catching up to her. Kyo eventually catches up to her and both finally confess their feelings to each other. Soon after confessing they kiss and Tohru tells him that her love for him cannot be beaten. He then pulls her into a hug, saying his human form will not last long, however Kyo does not change, indicating that his curse has been lifted.
