So about two weeks ago, I officially became about the LAST person in the cyber universe to finally make my own playlist and put it on my myspace page... Yes, yes I know its a little sad, but up until last week I was completely satisfied with only having one song on my page.... I will never go back to that way of thinking again! Playlist.com is great, becasue you can make as many playlists as you want, and find just about ANY song you want to go on it. Which, if you use your computer for pleasuring your eardrums as much as I do, is incredibly convinient. SO! My point to this blog, to show you just how much I got on my single little playlist of 200 songs. If you, for some reason, dont want to read about this, because, say, you dont like music in general or something..... I highly suggest that you leave my page, delete me from your friends and never speak to me again.
Because if you cant love music than you cant live a full life yo!
1. Pearl Jam- Positively my most favorite band...ever. I love PJ, and always will. Ahhhh Eddie Vedder, I want to have your illigitimate children....
2. Cat Stevens- I believe I touched on this in my last blog. Cat is the SH!T. Seriously. Whether you're a hippie or not, his lyrics and music are fantastic and legitimate to this day.
3.Incubus- My second favorite band. I positively LOVE Incubus. Great lyrics, INCREDIBLE sound, super smart Harvard student as a bassist.... I am SO there.
4. Social Distortion- My favorite band, still, from back when I was a greasy punk with dirty pink and blonde hair. They will always hold a super special space in my heart... Along with old AFI, the Swingin Utters and GolGolBordello...
5. Thom Yorke- Yes, he is the front man of Radiohead, and his solo stuff is AMAZING! Any Radiohead, or even SEMI Radiohead fans out there, download some for a listen.... I reccommend Atoms for Peace and Analyze, two fo my favorites of his.
6&7. Amy Winehouse and VanMorrison- I've only got one Wino song on there, and that would be "Valerie" ft. Mark Ronson. Its super. As for Van Morrison, he just has one of the greatest, most husky voices ever, yes?
8. Alison Krause- Alison Kruase is my hero. Her voice is simply hypnotic, and everything I would strive for my voice to be. Lovely.
9. Paramore- I know! I KNOW! Emo is so wrong, but somthing about having a cute redhead chick sing it makes is SO right.
10. Fiona Apple- Positively my FAVORITE, modern female vocalist. I adore her music... She is a must, for everyones collection...EVER.
11,12,13,14. Debussey, Chopin, Bach and Mozart- I think I've touched on this before as well. People dont listen to enough classical these days. Having spent 5 years playing double bass in orchestra, I can gladly say that I developed and overwhelming love for it. Make your kids listen to classical people, it totally DOES pay off.
15,16. YoYoMa, Mendelssohn- YoYoMa is absolutely the most AMAZING cellist ever, and seeing as how my favorite instrument, EVER, is the cello, of course, I admire him greatly. Mendelssohn, one of the most amazing violinists ever. I have tried to play violin, and apparently I have fat fingers or something, because it was horribly diffucult for me. Again, admiration times A BILLION.
17,18. Radiohead, Coldplay- Amazing bands, both of them. They are both also PERFECT for a rainy day. I mean that literally, when its raining, best music ever.
19,20,21. Judy Garland, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald- My favorite female vocalists EVER! (Note how I mentioned that Fiona is my favorite MODERN female vocalist). Poeple now a days dont have voices like these women did, and if they do, they dont get famous. THEY SHOULD. Because anyone who can channel the pure perfection of these womens voices deserves kudos, and lots of recognition and money.
22,23,24. Belle and Sebastian, Bright Eyes, The Brunettes- Belle and Sebastian and The Brunettes are the epitome of cutesy indie music, and I LOVE it. Check em' they're aweosme. Bright Eyes, I have had a long and passionate love affair with for a while.... When I adopt a new dog this summer, his name will be "Oberst"
25,26,27,28. Old Crow Medicine Show, Steel Drivers-,Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline- Now some of you may hate modern country music (I do!) But NO ONE hates folk or bluegrass rooted country music.... I think anyway. Its hard to find these days, what with the Jessica Simpsons, and Rascal Flatts around the country scene, but IT DOES STILL EXIST. I love folk music, and that is predominantly what I sing with my friends Lauren and Alfredo. Old Crow Medicine Show is fantastic and Folk-a-licious, highly, HIGHLY recommended kiddies. As for Steel Drivers, they are really the one that the "country music" statement that I made at the beginning of this paragraph pertains to. Like I said, I really distain modern country music, and have never really been a fan of most ANY country music, but Steel Drivers are the real deal as far as old school, real bluegrass country. Heavily bearded man with sunglasses and a cowboy hat on main vocals and acoustic guitar? Check. Double Bassist (like real, stand up bass)? Check. Cute woman that sings backup AND plays the fiddle? Check. Banjo? Check. STEEL GUITAR? Check. No drums, no electric guitar, just total old school awesomeness. As for Patsy and Dolly, they are completely and totally my guilty pleasures...but I'm really not that embarrassed seeing as they are legends, most defenately.
29,30,31. Zero 7,Muse, Theivery Corporation- Zero 7, I just love their vocalist's voice, and their mellow sound. Muse, is just GREAT. I have loved all of their work, and continue to to this day. Theivery Corporation, I can just get lost in for hours. Amazing, hypnotic, fantastic group.
32,33,34,35. Cream, Eric Clapton, Simon and Garfunkel, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- Cream=awesome, Simon and Garfunkel=awesome. Eric Clapton and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers= EVEN MORE AWESOME. I love Eric Clapton and TPHB, and owe that entirely to my parents (as I do with much of my music taste). How many of you can listen to "Tears in Heaven" and not cry? EH?! I want to know, honestly, because if you cant, then you're NOT HUMAN.
36. The Beatles- Need I even Elaborate on this? If I do it will only take me, like, 5 paragraphs. So lets skip that and just have everyone assume they know why the Beatles are so incredible. Moving on....
37,38. Elton John, Bob Dylan-The one and only TRUE male diva ever, Mr. Elton John, and one of the most amazing and talented preformers and song writers ever, Bob Dylan. "Crocodile Rock" AMAZING. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" Fantastic. The best song written by Mr. John EVER though? "Tiny Dancer" Hands down, one of my favorite songs ever. I love almost all Bob Dylan...With the exception of his most recent cd. "Hurracaine" and "Sara" are two of my favorite songs EVER.
39,40,41. Johnny Cash, Elliot Smith, The Snake The Cross The Crown-Johnny Cash, for me, is a sensitive subject. Is it great that more young people know about him? Of course. Does it piss me off that most of them had no interest in him until a movie came out about his life? Yeah, a little. I've been listening to Cash since my mom had him playing while changing my diapers people! Anyway, Elliot Smith, incredible man, its really to bad that he ended his life so early, I love his music, and his fearlessness to write about whatever he wanted, and make it into beautiful, heart wrenching music. The Snake The Cross The Crown, great band thats been around for about 7 years now. Love their music, and stumbled across them thanks to my bestie Katie B. Check em yo! I dont know why this is in bold, but I cant fix it...Sorry friends.
So what artists and songs would you have on your ultimate playlist, and why? Let me know my friends!
