The programmes I grew up with

So...i'm feeling a little nostalgic and i've been searching youtube for themes etc. for the shows I used to watch when i was younger - and I feel soooo old!

I didn't realise until now just how much television I used to watch! Looking at them now I wanna be a kid again and be able to watch the episodes. I feel so sorry for children nowadays because I don't consider the present programmes to be anywhere near as good as those I watched, so they're missing out!

Here's a list of some of the programmes I watched "back in the day":

Cartoons/animated:

Alivin & The Chipmunks

Animals of Farthing Wood

Rupert the Bear

Noah's Island

The Raccoons

Funnybones

Count Duckula

Raggydolls

Rocko's Modern Life

Hey Arnold!

Recess (I know this is still on)

Astro Farm

Pocket Dragons

Sesame Street

Sooty & Sweep

Ripley and Scuff

Thomas the Tank Engine

Superted

Sharkey & George

Zzzap

Playdays

Wizardora

Rosie & Jim

Fireman Sam

Penny Crayon

Tots Tv

The Trap Door

Dinosaurs

Fraggle Rock

Transylvania Pet Shop

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Dappledown Farm - I used to sneak downstairs very early in the morning and watch it with a slice of bread (I wasn't actually capable of buttering it!!)

I think i'll stop there! I miss being a kid, there was nothing to worry about and life was so easy - but I didn't realise it back then!

So...a new list, programmes I watched when I was older, on Nickelodeon and the like:

Sabrina the Teenage Witch (I prefer the earlier episodes)

Are You Afraid of the Dark

Alex Mack

The Adventures of Flipper the Dolphin (when Jessica Alba was in it)

Home Improvement

Keenan & Kel

Saved by the Bell

California Dreams

Hang Time

USA High

Ready or Not

Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Sister Sister

Boy Meets World

Clarissa Explains it All

Touched by an Angel

The Queen's Nose

Sweet Valley High

California Dreams

Clueless

Heartbreak High

Round the Twist

So, that's pretty much around 90% of what I can remember watching when I was a child. I think there were a lot more quality programmes back then - though it could just be me! All those new Disney Programmes can't match any of the old shows, hence why I think they should all be back on television! I would love to be able to watch programmes like California Dreams all over again, that show never did get as much credit as it clearly deserved. i just wish that the old shows were on DVD so I would be able to show them to my children in the future - ya know, when I actually have children!

I miss being a child soooo much!!!

Woah...so not liking this!

I knew the site was changing but I kinda don't like it. I guess I might get used to it eventually but navigation isn't exactly easy and it looks too...yuck.

Can we have the option of going back to the old one?

Bleurgh.

"No Artificial Colours or Flavours"

I know the following has nothing to do with television...but i'm gonna say it anyway!

The blue Smartie just isn't what it used to be. It might 'be back' but it's nowhere near the same! I consider the commercial stating 'blue is back' as misleading - first of all it's not even the same shade of blue as the original!

Just because these scientist dudes have decided artificial colours and flavours are not good for children, the makers of sweets like Smarties have re-manufactured them so they don't have the additives. I happen to quite like additives, they never did me any harm...I turned out alright, right??

Okay, I totally get that hyper kids can be annoying, but I loved having Smarties and the like when I was a child and getting a little hyper was all part of the fun!! Besides, as an adult I think it'd only be fair for the manufacturers to start making Smarties with additives again...just market them to adult consumers! I think i'll e-mail them with this proposal - I won't even request any reward for the idea, I just want the old Smarties back!

Oh, George Samson won Britain's Got Talent - HOLLA! He's an amazing little dancer. I think Escala and Faryl should have made top 3 though. I think they'll do well out of BGT anyway, at least I hope they will - they were brilliant! Strike, Signature and Nemisis were fantastic too. :D

Lost with "Lost"

You know what? I haven't managed to see 1 episode of Lost since maybe episode 3 of the latest Season. What's worse is that I can't even remember what season we're on. I feel pretty bad about it. Although I consider it a good show I really only watched it religiously for the simple reason that missing a minute of an episode would mean i'd get completely confused as to what was going on. I guess that's why i've given up. There are too many strange thigs going on with that programme and even when I did watch every episode I still kinda didn't get it....maybe it's because i'm blonde. I don't know. I think Ch4 should have kept the rights to airing it instead of Sky One since now that it only gets aired on Sky One there's virtually no chance of me catching any episodes. Awww...

Oh, Pushing Daisies - I don't understand the hype. I watched the first episode and frankly got so bored I fell asleep. How can anyone sit through a whole episode with that silly voice-over thingy saying "one hour, four minutes and six seconds yada yada yada" ?? It annoys me.

I've lost all interest in 'Dirty Sexy Money' too. I tried to get into it but nah, just not my cup of tea. I prefer Gossip Girl. I know, I know, it makes so much sense to compare these two shows, since they're evidently sooooo similar, right?

Dirt - Yet another show i'm rapidly losing interest in. The first Season was pretty good but I find myself forgetting to watch the new episodes and not paying any attention when I do remember to watch it!

There's a new sketch show on BBC3 called 'Barely Legal'. It's pretty funny, I still prefer Smack the Pony though. Anyone know anything about any new episodes of Smack the Pony? It was never really on very regularly so I never know if it'll be on so I end up missing it if it is. I should go check if it's on DVD.

New Gladiators UK - haven't seen one episode yet but I kinda don't wanna because I loved the original show and I don't particularly like change. Catching any episodes is unlikely because it's on friggin' Sky One. Stupid Channel!!! I kinda feel like I should be loyal to the original Gladiators...even though it finished 8 years ago and wasn't so good after Jet left anyway. I need help, right?

Why do we UK citizens always waste our time entering the Eurovision Song Contest? It's blatantly obvious that the voting is purely political and the music has nothing to do with it. I think the UK should pull out of any involvement with the show, including funding. While we're at it, we should seriously consider dropping out of the European Union all together. Being part of it is completely mucking up our legal system. Oh, we came 25th in the ESC - out of 25 entries. Ok, we were 'joint' 25th but we only scored an 8 from one country and a 6 from another while the other two countries with the dubious honor of being in the same place as us had been awarded higher singular scores which meant they beat us so in actual fact the UK came last...we may as well have gotten no points whatsoever, or as I said, not bothered entering in the first place. The whole contest is a sham and unless we go back to jury voting it will continue to be a sham.

I missed the Season finale of Skins too. Slightly annoying. I switched it on but I managed to lose all concentration. I can't even remember what I was doing that made me divert my attention...coulda been exams...maybe. Considering i'd watched all of the episodes up until then i'm pretty p***ed at missing the finale since they're changing the whole cast for the next Season.

I have no money until Friday and virtually no petrol, and that's without factoring guy troubles into it. Anyone wanna give me some money so I can go on a nice sunny holiday?!

Gossip Girl

I absolutely LOVE GG, it has to be one of the best programmes on the air at the moment!

We're only 3 episodes in over here and i'm already addicted, have been since 5 mins into the first episode. The pilot was amazing and I love the way Serena and Dan are together. The way their relationship is progressing is something anyone can relate to and totally absorbs the viewers!

It is seriously one of those programmes that requires the phone being off and a severe warning to anyone who dares knock on your door that you will make them regret it - once the episode is finished of course!

Just a heads up for any UK-ers who haven't gotten round to watching GG yet - you are sooo missing out!!

I have read comments stating that it's not good because it isn't true to the book it is based on...well, i've never read the book/s so it doesn't apply to me - yay!

This is yet another reason I will be using to explain why I don't read these days! It has the potential to wreck programmes because constantly comparing the two would be annoying and totally ruin the fact that regardless of whether the show is accurate in terms of the book it's a really good show and shouldn't be slated just for that dare I say 'minor' issue.

I get that it might be disappointing in some respects if you expected it to be true to the book, but just sit back and enjoy it for what it is - brilliant television in an age where reality tv is everywhere and fiction is just what people need at the moment, something to take them away from reality and into another world, even if it is just for an hour a week.

I Love E4!!!!!

E4 are airing BBUSA 9 - YAY! I'm so chuffed about it. The last US BB they aired was BB4 (and i'm that pathetic I still remember all of the houseguest's names from that season!)

Yeah, so it's great. I love the US format so much more than the UK format. The UK format is getting pretty old and there are too many rules with the whole nominations thing. The US one is a lot more 'open' because the houseguests get to actually compete properly and there's all this backstabbing and stuff - so much fun becuase you know it's all gonna kick off! I just find it a lot more 'cosier' to watch in some respects. I know it's weird but I like that the audience isn't voting for evictions so the houseguests aren't focussing on how the public perceives them - fantastic to watch!

Neighbours and it's new Channel

Firstly: As you probably know, Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment the day before yesterday (Jan 22nd). I'm still shocked by this news since i've been a fan of Heath since 1999 and honestly never saw this coming. He was so young and hugely talented. I'm really going to miss him. R.I.P. Heath. xox :(

Note: (since i'm sick to death of editing this damn thing): If there are any spaces between words missing it's not my fault. It's the freaking blog not working properly. It needs sorting because it's really starting to hack me off. :x

Okay...Neighbours.

Since Neighbours only has just over 2 weeks until it moves channels I thought i'd dedicate a blog to the move I never thought would happen!

Neighbours will be moving from good ol' BBC1 to Channel Five on February 11th after more than 20 years and although I know there are positives to come from this move I can't help but feel slightly weirded out about it. Having been brought up with Neighbours it's going to be so strange having it on a new channel - and with a commercial break and a 'sponsor'. How weird is that going to be?

The good news is that it'll be aired at pretty much the same times as BBC1. It'll be aired at 1.45pm and repeated at 5.30pm which is only a very slight change...but added to the break and the whole sponsor thing it's still going to be noticably different and slightly weird.

So...I have a little problem with this. I have so much trouble getting a reception for Channel 5 some days at Uni so i'm actually really scared of having to miss an episode because of it and considering I still have 11 weeks of Uni until Summer Break this is no good. I've probably only missed a handful of episodes since I first began watching it (yeah, I know it's pathetic) and I really don't want to have to miss it! BUT - there will be an omnibus edition on the weekends - which is no good for those people who work all weekend (i.e. me!). This is going to be a struggle!

Good points about the move: We get an omnibus; granted, some people won't be able to watch it - but the option is there! We also get Neighbours during Wimbledon - YAY!!!!:D I'm so chuffed about that lol. There is also the possibility of a first look Neighbours so we get an episode a day early, like CH5 do with H&A. It hasn't been confirmed as yet but i'm hoping it will happen...no, it should happen because they should have it exactly like H&A so there are loads of opportunities to see it because you know that once you've missed the 5.35pm showing on BBC1 then that's it - no more chances to see that episode until it airs on UK Gold at some stupid hour in the morning!

I do feel that CH5 will be a lot more active in promoting Neighbours than BBC1 has been. I've always felt that BBC1 never really gave the show proper credit, though there have been some good specials aired recently on BBC3. Channel 5 have always been pretty good with promoting H&A so i'm assuming they'll do the same for Neighbours since they paid so much to get the rights to air it!

As we know, the move is a definate for the next 10 years...but I am wondering how long it'll stay on CH5 for. Some UKers can't actually get CH5, period...so Neighbours will be losing some of it's viewers - and not by choice! BBC1 are replacing Neighbours with Doctors (which has already moved into the 1.40pm slot moving Neighbours to 2.10pm until it moves channels) and the evening showing is being said to be replaced by The Weakest Link. That ought to be interesting. What would you choose? 2 new battles! Neighbours vs Doctors and Neighbours vs Weakest Link!!! I can sooo see Neighbours winning!

I figure that the ratings will play a huge factor in who bids for the rights to show Neighbours next time. It's a show that gets pretty good ratings anyway but it all depends on who follows the show to the new channel, and of course, the new viewers! If it continues to get good ratings for CH5 then I think they'll definitely be in the running for the rights for the foreseeable future - but BBC1 might well bid next time if they find they're losing too many viewers due to the loss of the soap - and I can see it happening.

I wonder if i'll be blogging again with the news of Neighbours moving back to BBC1?

OMFG i'm getting so annoyed with this freaking blog. Everytime I post (i'm editing this for the 7th freaking time) the spaces between some of the words just disappear - and I hate it!!!!! :x

Maddie is still missing :(

Maddie

I wasn't planning on blogging for a while but i'm trying to avoid doing some work so figured i'd post some ramblings here for any strays who get lost and happen to stumble upon this blog by accident lol.

So, as the title says, Maddie still hasn't been found (see previous entry). I think this is terrible and i'd still like to think she's still out there somewhere, alive and well. There are thousands of theories flying around and her parents have been made official suspects in Portugal but I don't think they actually have any real evidence against them. I personally think the Portugese police are clutching at straws and for them to accuse Maddie's parents of murdering their own child is disgusting.

Aside from that there isn't much else I feel like saying. I'm annoyed Gordon Brown (our new PM) has refused to give us a referendum on a European treaty (a re-hashed constitution according to reports) that takes away our sovereignty and rights in this Country. Yay - just what we need.

I guess i'd better get back to work, time waits for no-one, right? (but the clocks are going back tonight so time is a little bit helpful sometimes!)

So...holidays - there's Halloween! So, Happy Halloween (I'll be studying all night lol)

Hopefully i'll be able to have a lil' family reunion for bonfire night though, that'll be good. :)

Laters,

Sel xox

Madeleine McCann

Maddie

I don't know if anyone really knows much about Madeleine, she's a 4 year old girl who's missing at the moment. It's been over two weeks now and she still hasn't been found and returned to her family. So, since residing in the UK is totally useless at the moment considering she was taken while on vacation in Portugal I just figured i'd put something here and if anyone who reads this happens to be visiting Portugal or somewhere relatively near anytime soon to look out for her. Somebody has said they saw her in Morocco ten days ago, so if it really was Maddie then whoever took her managed to take her over the border without the police seeing, so yeah...please keep a look out for Maddie if you're anywhere near where she was taken.

It's been just over 3 weeks now (i'm writing this on May 25th)...and precisely nothing. Portugese police are absolutely useless. They've snubbed sniffer dogs from Britain that can track for miles - why the hell don't they seem to be doing anything? I hope to God Maddie is still alive, she's a 4 year-old child for Christ's sake - they have tofind her! They should have done more to find her from the bloody start...i'm not happy about this at all. Her parents must be going through sheer hell. :(

Heroes

Ya know, I just switched to a channel which was airing Heroes and I just don't get it...I can't get into the show at all so i'm just gonna give up lol.

I saw 'Sixteen Candles' this weekend - soooo don't understand why people think it's a great movie, it was a total waste of my time, won't be getting it on DVD!

E4 have again chosen to not air the One Tree Hill episode where the school shooting takes place, it's totally understandable though in the light of events last week...seems that everytime it gets close to that episode airing on E4 a huge tragedy happens. Maybe E4 should give up attempting to air it at all. S3 is out on DVD so people can still see the full season; E4 are only showing new episodes of S4 for the forseeable future because the shooting influences the rest of S3. I guess now is as good a time as any to say my thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by the shootings in VA this week, I was horrified when I saw the news.:(

Aside from that, back to Uni for the last few weeks later today...well, tonight technically so I still have around 24-ish hours left at home but when you take away the time taken for work/sleep/packing there really isn't much left over lol.

I figured i'd blog now and then get down to the whole studying thing (eventually)...i've no idea how i'm going to remember any European Cases, can't bloody spell or pronounce most of them lol - anyone wanna do that for me?! I can't find one of my seminar sheets either,i'm hoping i've left it at Uni -the seminar is on Monday and I have to attend so the sheet had better be on my wall. I thought i'd packed everything though...I bet i've lost it so i'll have to get up really early in the morning to go get another sheet, find the bloody articles and get the work done...sucks...I blame Uni, they still haven't put the bloody sheet online when they should have done it weeks ago...they're useless lol.

So, lots to do, i'm out, laters! :|
