Plagiarism and TV.com

Discovering that I had been repeatedly plagiarized here on TV.com, not by just one person but by two, has completely freaked me out. I've written over 1500 individual episode reviews of so many shows. How can I possibly check them all?

In truth, I can't. It's not physically possible. And although I'm pleased with how TV.com has banned one offender and removed the reviews of the other, how soon until it happens again?

I have come to the conclusion that this problem has something to do with the format of TV.com. If you can't write well (writing is hard, baby) and you want points -- and you have no conscience to speak of -- what do you do? You hunt down a prolific but not all that well-known writer, like me, and you rip them off. I can't be the only one who has been serially plagiarized here on TV.com. I was just lucky enough to discover it, because two of my readers noticed and were kind enough to tell me about it.

So, after several days of trauma, I've pretty much had it. I'm taking down my reviews and going home. I'd like to hang on to my membership, just in case I get reviews stolen again -- since you have to be a member to report abuse. But I'm not posting any more reviews here.

Thanks for all the fish.
