If I Worked for ABC Family...

If I worked for ABC Family and controlled the schedule this is what it would be:

11AM Full House
12PM Family Matters
1PM Step By Step
2PM Boy Meets World
3PM Sabrina the Teenage Witch
4PM 8 Simple Rules
5PM 7th Heaven
6PM Everwood
7PM Gilmore Girls
8PM Original Shows

I would take Sister Sister out, bring back Everwood and 7th Heaven (7th Heaven plays only on weekends). I would take away double airings of Gilmore Girls and Full House, I don't care how popular those shows are. I would bring Sabrina back from the morning hours to the afternoon hours where it would get better ratings.
By putting Gilmore Girls at 7PM I would not watch it waiting for a better show to come on (like 7th Heaven before they moved it to just weekends). I know GG is a popular show, but I just don't find it something I enjoy.

Summer Marathon

For ABC Family, I would've done a summer marathon to air during the Memorial Day weekend.  Of course, that marathon would not include Sister Sister and 8 Simple Rules, but since they will appear on the lineup starting June 11, I include them in my Summer Marathon.  The rules are the episodes have to be about vacation type trips, like to beaches or Disney World, not just trips away, like where Carol and Frank in Step by Step always like to go to hotels to get it on and stuff like that.

12:00 PM Full House 3.1 Tanner Island
12:30 PM Full House 6.23 The House Meets the Moust Pt. 1
1:00 PM Full House 6.24 The House Meets the Moust Pt. 2
1:30 PM Family Matters 6.22 We're Going to Disney World Pt. 1
2:00 PM Family Matters 6.23 We're Going to Disney World Pt. 2
2:30 PM Step By Step 2.18 Aloha Pt. 1
3:00 PM Step By Step 2.19 Aloha Pt. 2
3:30 PM Step By Step 5.22 We're Going to Disney World Pt. 1
4:00 PM Step By Step 5.23 We're Going to Disney World Pt. 2
4:30 PM Boy Meets World 3.21 The Happiest Show on Earth
5:00 PM Boy Meets World 7.8 The Honeymooners
5:30 PM Sabrina the Teeage Witch 2.23 Disney World
6:00 PM Sabrina the Teenage Witch 3.25 The Good, the Bad, and the Luau
6:30 PM Sabrina the Teenage Witch 5.17 Beach Blanket Bizarro
7:00 PM Sabrina the Teenage Witch 7.21 What a Witch Wants Pt. 1
7:30 PM Sister Sister 3.9 Thanksgiving in Hawaii Pt. 1
8:00 PM Sister Sister 3.10 Thanksgiving in Hawaii Pt. 2
8:30 PM 8 Simple Rules 1.22 Good Moms Gone Wild

There is an episode of Sabrina where they go on a trip and Sabrina has to buy Soliel Moon Frye's character a present and SMF's character (I get Morgan and Roxy confused) finds her mom there, but I couldn't find the episode in the list.

Father's Day Marathon

I was wondering, what if I was to create a Father's Day Marathon for ABC Family, what would I show?  Well, I was going to use all the sitcoms that air on ABCF, including the two that will be added June 11.  In coming up with episodes that fit the theme of Fathers, I saw a lot of Full House ones, so I decided to create one with just Full House eps as well. Here's the Full House marathon:
1:00 PM 1.1 Our Very First Show
1:30 PM 1.7 Daddy's Home
2:00 PM 3.11 Aftershocks
2:30 PM 4.12 Danny In Charge
3:00 PM 4.21 The Hole-in-the-Wall Gang
3:30 PM 4.25 The Graduates
4:00 PM 5.11 Nicky and/or Alexander
4:30 PM 5.15 Play It Again, Jess
5:00 PM 5.22 The Trouble with Danny
5:30 PM 6.18 Please Don't Touch the Dinosaur
6:00 PM 6.21 Room For One More
6:30 PM 7.4 Tough Love
7:00 PM 7.7 High Anxiety
7:30 PM 7.12 Support Your Local Parents

All the shows:
8:00 AM Full House 4.12 Danny In Charge
8:30 AM Full House 5.11 Nicky and/or Alexander
9:00 AM Full House 5.15 Play It Again, Jess
9:30 AM Full House 7.12 Support Your Local Parents
10:00 AM Family Matters 1.6 Basketball Blues
10:30 AM Family Matters 2.15 Son
11:00 AM Family Matters 4.2 Hot Wheels
11:30 AM Family Matters 4.24 Buds 'n' Buns

4:00 PM Boy Meets World 7.3 Angela's Men
4:30 PM Sabrina the Teenage Witch 1.20 Meeting Dad's Girlfriend

7:30 PM 8 Simple Rules 1.1 Pilot
8:00 PM 8 Simple Rules 1.8 By the Book
8:30 PM 8 Simple Rules 1.23 Career Woman

I think that would be cool.  I'd watch.

The Wonder Years

ION Television will launch its new schedule on Monday, April 2 with
the additions of sitcoms Alice and The Wonder Years to the weekday
line-up. Closing the ION line-up at 10 p.m. EST will be back-to-back
episodes of the popular sitcom The Wonder Years.

I love this show. I'm so glad they're bringing it back next month.  I am going to try to tape every episode.  I'm going to do this with Boy Meets World as well.  Well, actually with BMW, I'm going to buy the DVDs for seasons 1-3 and then I'm going to try to download as many episodes of seasons 4-7 that I can find on the internet.  I prefer Disney Channel or original ABC episodes, but will take what I can get.  For what I can't find, I will tape off TV.  One day I'll get a program where I can transfer shows to my computer and then burn a CD-R or DVD (depends if I have a program to burn DVDs, I currently don't) so I will always have the episodes.  These are two shows that I don't want to lose.

Where Does Cory...

I'm watching the episode "Friendly Persuasion" of Boy Meets World.  Cory has recently moved into the dorms at Pennbroke and is afraid to use the co-ed bathroom.  This lasts for at the very least a day (but I believe it lasts longer than that).  OK, my question is WHERE DOES CORY USE THE BATHROOM IN ALL THAT TIME?

The First Season

It seems to me that the first season  of most TV shows is a lot (maybe drastically) different than the rest of the show.   Let's look at some shows and their differences in season 1.

Boy Meets World -- Minkus, Topanga with crimpy/curly hair into nature and just weird, Shawn has a sister, Topanga has a sister, only season in elementary school

Sabrina the Teenage Witch -- No Mr. Kraft, Mr. Pool instead of Mrs. Quick, Jenny instead of Valerie, the way Sabrina uses her magic (and not just because she's new at it)

Full House -- Jesse's last name is Cochran not Katsopolis, no Becky, Danny does sports, Jesse kills bugs, Jesse has a mullet (whether he wants to admit it or not)

Of course, there are more shows, but these are the three I can think of most vividly.
Why does this take place?  My guess is that season 1 is the starting point for tv shows and as the show grows the writers think of what they'd really rather do with the characters.  John Stamos wanted to reflect his Greek past on his character so Jesse Cochran became Jesse Katsopolis.  Lee Norris was on a show prior to Boy Meets World and the show got picked up for another season after he filmed the first season of Boy Meets World, so Minkus dropped off the face of the earth.  Most of the time, characters are created first and then the actors are found.  Season 1 is written and filmed.  The actors want to put themselves into the characters, so the characters pick up some of the personality of the actors, like Jesse being a musician.
Season 1 of Friends was all about Rachel reconnecting with her high school best friend and becoming independent from her father.  They could only continue with that for so long before they needed to find a new angle with her character.  She got a job at Central Perk as a waitress.  She did her laundry on her own for the first time.  The writers couldn't keep hammering on independence, because she basically had it with a job and an apartment.  She can only do everything for the first time only once.  So, they went the angle, which I assumed was their purpose all along, of Ross and Rachel.
A lot of season ones are about changes, giving a reason as to why we're starting the story at this point in time.  The change takes place in season 1 so we cannot keep harping on it in season 2. It gets old at that point.  The characters have changed and now it's about how they are after adapting to the change.  Gilmore Girls season 1 starts off with Lorelai sending her daughter, Rory, to a private school.  The whole season is about how Rory adapts to private school and how her school adapts to her.  The next year of school, she's not going to be trying to adapt any longer.  So, that angle changes.
Many shows happen to deal with kids in school, whether that is part of the main plot or not.  Each of year of school new kids come in and some old students leave.  This does have an impact on the shows.  It's possibly one reason why season 1 can be so different than the rest of the seasons.  The writers don't say they need have to students leave.  It's just a way for them to bring in new characters and take out ones they don't want anymore.
Another reason that season 1 can be so different from the rest of the show is how the audience responds to certain things.   The audience may hate a character, so they drop him.  Or they may hate a plotline, so they change it.  Or the show is not doing too well in ratings, so they refurbish the show to see if season 2 will be much better.  Some cases, I have found, the show changes stations after season 1 and the new stations wants things their way.
One of the most drastic changes that I can remember is with the show Hogan's Family which was originally called Valerie, named after the actress, Valerie Harper, playing the main character.  At the end of season 1, they decided to fire Valerie.  Valerie is the mother.  You can't just drop the mother.  But, they did.  They brought in Sandy Duncan. I think she played the part of the aunt, I don't remember too well.  So, the show changed a lot.  The show could no longer be called Valerie since it was no longer about Valerie.  It became Hogan's Family and focused on the new character played by Sandy Duncan and the remaining members of the Hogan Family.

I don't know how to end this since I did not intend to write an essay on this topic. I just wanted to discuss it, since it is something that I have been thinking about lately.  I do a lot of thinking. I'm just a thinking person.  So, I'll end it here.

The Best Christmas Gift

You want to know what the best Christmas gift of all was (OK, second best gift since Jesus Christ was/is the best)?  My cousin's baby, Maggie, came home from the hospital on Christmas Day!

Merry Christmas!

I just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!  I got some great gifts, but I think the best one is my dad's The Real McCoys DVDs. It's just two DVDs with four episodes each, but it's great, because this is his absolute favorite show of all time.  I mean it.  He took a year off from work one year.  It just so happened to be the same year that TNN was broadcasting reruns of this show.  He said he almost didn't go back to work because of that.
What would make it better was if they had season DVDs of this show.  Oh, well.  We'll take what we can get.

Merry Christmas everyone!  Jesus is the reason for the season!

New Arrival and Christmas themed Blog

My cousin had her baby on Wednesday.  She had a little girl.  She was born a month early, but she's doing fine.  She had to be put on oxygen, because her lungs were not fully developed, but as of today she's off the oxygen.  My aunt sent us pictures.  She looks just like her mother.  I can't wait to see her, but it'll have to wait til after Christmas.  I'm not putting her full name (except to say her first name can be found in the Bible), but I will put the name she will be called and that's Maggie.

With Christmas in just a few days, I decided to add some Christmas to this post.
My favorite Christmas Carol:

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Cousin back in the hospital

My cousin is back in the hospital, this time in Atlanta.
When my cousin's proestrogen (or however you spell it - don't feel like looking it up) is high, she has more seizures.  As the pregnancy progresses, her level of proestrogen will grow, so she will have more seizures.  There is talk of them giving birth to the baby in three weeks.  The baby will only be 8 months along, but it should be fine.  She'll be under hospital care and they know what they're doing.  My cousin's due January 19, but they were talking of inducing labor (not a c-section) at the end of December anyway, because of my cousin's epilepsy.  This would just be a couple weeks earlier, I assume.
Let's see.  Three weeks from now -- if it includes this week would be the week of Dec. 10-17.  I think that might be the week when Hanukah (again too lazy to look it up) starts.  I'm not Jewish, I'm Christian, but my cousin is a Messianic Jew. Well, she's not really, at least I don't think she is in her heart.  In her heart, I think she's a Christian (what I gauge from talking to her), but her husband is a Messianic Jew and so they attend a Messianic Jewish Temple and she practices the religion just like he does.
Anyway, that's not important.  What's important is her health and her baby's health.  I know she can't wait to give birth to the baby, although  I have a feeling she has no idea what she's getting  herself into.
I don't know if my cousin had a seizure prompting hospitalization.  What I do know is they put her in the hospital to study her, to see if they can figure out which part of the brain her seizures are coming from and if they can find any way to control them and let the pregnancy go to full term.  Honestly, I doubt they'll be able to.  I think the baby is going to have to be born early.  And you know what? I think it'll be OK.
