The end of an era

Well, it's finally happened. Lost, one of the greatest tv shows ever has ended its six year run. I've been talked back in from the ledge, but I'm still really going to miss this show.

From what I've been reading, the finale pretty much split the fanbase. Some liked it and were quite satisfied. Others have spoken with much venom laced intheir criticism. Me, I fall into the liking it camp. And no, I don't suffer from brain damage. While there weren't many Isalnd mysteries explained in the finale (maybe none), it wasn't until the finale had come to a close that I realized I hadn't even been thinking about the hundreds of unanswered questions. While watching the episode, I was more concerned about who was going to make it to the end.

More than once, I figured someone was surely a goner. Des and Sawyer surely wouldn't last through their encounter with Smokey. Then, how are they going to get rid of Smokey. Ceremonial knives, butllets, even mortars have no effect on him. And when Frank was about to take off on the Ajira plane without Sawyer, Kate, and Claire, I knew one of Widmore's planted explosives was going to go off.

For me, I thought the first 2:15 of the finale was epic. Then the final 15 minutes came along. I was a little disturbed by that last bit in the church, but as I've had time to absorb and contemplate, I've really warmed up to the entire episode.

In the end, there was some resolution. Plus, I think the show's creatorsachieved just what they had set out to do with the finale. They created enough open-endedness (is that even a word?) that fans will be discussing (arguing?) about this for some time to come. I won't say it was a perfect ending, but for me, it definitely didn't tarnish the show. Thank you Lost for creating a unique viewing experience that will probably never be duplicated.

Lost is winding down

Five more episodes of Lost until the series finale. Seems like there are still an awful lot of loose ends to tie up in that short amount of time, though it looks like things are going to begin to clear up soon.

The latest episode featured Desmond. Is it me, or are all of his episodes very, very difficult to get a grasp on? Anyway, it appears he will be the key to the two realities we've been shown this season.

Only about 6 weeks until one of the greatest, if not the greatest series ever on tv comes to an end.

Lost

Ok, so Lost is back for the final season. As if last season's time travelling wasn't enough to confuse even the most dedicated Lost-aholic, now we have two timelines. There are the Losties on the Island, presumably in 2007 and the Losties on Oceanic 815 that have safely landed in LA maybe in 2004, with some slight changes from the reality we'd been shown over the first 5 seasons.

My greatest fear, at least with regards to Lost, is that when the series finale is over, there will be a bad taste in my mouth, kind of like when Quantum Leap ended. I don't really have a very good feeling about the final season premiere. I know it's early, and since I've invested a good portion of my free time over the last 5+ years to watching and discussing this show, I'm not jumping ship just yet. There's still time to make this a great final season.

Wikipedia

Just a small rant here.

I can't believe how many people cite Wikipedia as a source and take it as the gospel truth.  I mean, people do realize that anyone can put anything on that site, don't they?

I was taking a couple of classes at my local community college last spring (yes, I'm far beyond the age of traditional college students).  In one of my classes, I had to do a research paper and the professor stated specifically not to use Wikipedia as a source.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Conspiracy Theorists

I saw that someone on these forums had referenced the film Loose Change.  I can't understand how anyone could seriously believe the propaganda in this film.

Even if a person has an intense hatred for President Bush, could that person really believe that our own government would kill over 3,000 of its own citizens?  Do said people also believe that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a true story?  Given enough money and technology, I could probably produce a documentary detailing the truefulness of Jack and the Beanstalk.

I hope it's not too late to save this great country, but I feel that as the far left gains more and more credibility, things will only get worse.

Cards-Cubs series

This past weekend was a classic in the Cards-Cubs series that dates back to 1876.  I'm a big Cards fan, so I was happy to see the Redbirds take 2 of 3.

Yesterday illustrated why I enjoy watching Albert Pujols play.  After St. Louis blew a two-run lead in the bottom of the 9th on one of those crazy Wrigley Field quirks, Albert hit a 3-run home run clear out the ballpark in the top of the 10th.

Long live Prince Albert!
