TV has been ruined for me

I have a bone to pick with Joss Whedon. Don't get me wrong, the man's a genius and I love him, but I am annoyed just the same. Why you ask? He has effectively ruined all future TV for me. As an avid Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel/Firefly fan, I find that no other shows can even comes close to the level of entertainment Jess provided. It's true. I do watch other shows, I do love other shows, but it's not the same. All his shows had a little something extra. What made them stand out? Not sure. Joss seems to have a knack for taking a ridiculous sounding premise (Buffy the Vampire Slayer - right. And a sci-fi western?!?) and completely surprising you. It was smart TV. Story telling at it's finest. Unique concepts coupled with witty writing. It probably has a lot to do with some of the most well written/developed characters on tv ever, portrayed by some very fine and talented actors. The characters on Buffy, Angel and Firefly weren't static. They grew and changed over time. They felt real. Their relationships felt real. We were manipulated into caring about each and every one of them and I resent that! Because all these amazingly good shows are gone and now I am left with nothing. Just a handful of 'pretty good' shows.Shows that are only a hollow mockery of the art I had grown so accustomed to. Shows that I watch each week in a vain attempt to fill the void left within me. So what do I do? How do I find the strength within me to carry on? DVDs. And movies such as Serenity and the anxious awaited Wonder Woman. And hope. Hope that one day Mr. Whedon will be inspired to return TV with some new and equally crazy idea that will turn out, not-so-shockingly to be my newest favourite show.

Too Much Time

Well, it's gotten to that time of year when most shows head into their winter hiatus and I am down three shows. What will get me through each week if not the promise of an hour full of suspense/passion/humour?? I live vicariously through my television shows (Don't most of us lowly tv-addicts?), and I'm not afraid to admit it. TV is just more interesting than my life. And mre interesting than your life. Oh come on, you know it's true. When is the last time you hunted things that go bump in the night? Or broke your falsly accused brother out of prison? Or were stranded on a deserted, not to mention incredibly bizarre, island? Or were just really good-looking and young and rich?? OK that last one sounded pretty lame, but that's why I don't watch the OC.
My problem now though, isn't so much the fact that I will miss my weekly shows. I mean, don't get me wrong, I totally will. There will be moments when I will be tempted to come check some spoilers for the next episode of Prison Break, or moments when I will sit and ponder what crazy medical malady House will cure next, but my big problem is this:

What will I do with all that free time?

It's a brain teaser. I spend an inordinate amount of time watching TV. It is a real problem. I mean, I never watch TV in the summer and when shows go on hiatus or I am in a place without cable, I don't really notice. However, when the TV is available, I become an addict. So, what to make sure I put my time to good use I have come up with some ideas:

Arts and Crafts - This sounds stupid, but the holidays are coming up and I am a poor student working for minimum wage so making people gifts could be an option. I can be pretty creative and am not completely hopless in art. Any suggestions?
Also on the list: Yoga. I have always wanted to try out yoga but could never find the time! Or, if it turns out yoga is not my thing: self-defense classes!! I like to punch things! Hmm...what else? Cooking? I don't know how to cook. Bake, yes: cookies, cakes, pies you name it! Cooking...not so much. Or laundry. Maybe I could learn to do laundry properly. Oh be quiet, Rachel was like thirty before Ross taught her so I figure I am way ahead of the game here. Well, that was actually a pretty good list. I better go get started. I am gonna be busy!

I saw THE metallicar! Well, a couple actually...

I am just getting home when my little sister runs to the door to meet me. On her way home she had spotted one of those coloured movie arrows with the letters "SN" on it. She knows how obsessed I am with Supernatural and they do film the show here so of course she ran back up the street with me. We find all the movie trailers and wander up and down the street they are filming on and up and down the block of dressing room trailers. There wasn't much going on at the time and I was beginning to feel like a big, pathetic stalker so we decided to go. We are getting to the end of the trailers when I see it: THE METALLICAR!! Two of them actually! I tried to act calm and collected but inside I was freaking out!! I made my sister take a couple of pictures on her cell phone. She thought I was a bit of a freak (aren't we all?) but I didn't care. I didn't get to see the boys (*tear*), but I am so excited about the car that I don't even care! I needed to tell someone so I phoned my best friend. Of course, she doesn't watch Supernatural so she didn't exactly get why me spotting some car was so amazing, but it was. It was so big and shiny and real!!

I kind of wished there had only been one. Seeing the two side by side like that next to the movie trailers made it seem less real. Don't worry, I am aware that it is not real and Sam and Dean don't exist. I'm not that delusional...yet.
