I love Law & Order SVU. The show is great, the acting and writing is excellent, and I nearly always enjoy the show. The only thing I don't enjoy is the constant speculation that Elliot and Olivia will get together or are already in love.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and I'm not interested in calling anyone out or anything. But it seems to me that making Elliot and Olivia a couple would not only ruin the show, but also ruin the characters for good. E and O are fun to watch as best friends, especially in the later seasons. Anything beyond that just gets awkward. Elliot is happy with his family, especially once the differences are reconciled with Kathy, and breaking that up for good seems silly.
I would also like to point out that in the event that Elliot and Olivia do begin to date or fall in love or whatever, it is unlikely they would be allowed to remain partners because they couldn't be as objective as necessary about one another. They've already separated and seen psychologists about their co-dependent relationship; becoming anything more than friends would separate them for good. The producers would be shooting themselves in the foot--they've done such a great job with the chemistry between E and O that people want more from them, and to have Elliot and Olivia get together would mean they were separated more than before, and viewers don't want that to happen.
It's sort of a Catch-22: Either they stay just friends and get more screen-time together, or they fall in love and we don't see the great scenes that made us like them in the first place anymore.
P.S. This is my first blog post, so if I did something wrong... sorry. I'd love feedback, though.
