recap 2008

a short reacap of my personal opinions on 2008s popculture:

what really stands out:

jimmy smits as miguel prado on dexter

the lovely anna paquin on true blood

tom sizemore as detective cooper on crash

best shows:

true blood (without a doubt)

dexter

chuck

btw:

there are so many shows or people who should be mentioned because they really did a great job, so i will just do that here!

first of all the creators, actors and all staff of pushing daisies. they really did a wonderful job

alec baldwin a s the king of comedy, as the new yorker wrote. and hand in hand with baldwin goes tina fey and her whole 30 rock ensemble. a show that grew to one of my personal favourit things on tv

bruce campbell for his hilarious and quite serious performance in burn notice

the creators, actors and staff of las vegas. great job. a shame it didn't last

crash and true blood for shaking things up and thematizing quite political and controversive issues on tv

weeds for being still a great show, but not making it into the top three

besides tv?

barak obama for winning the election

cinema: no country for old men, walle

music: robert forster, bodies of water, rökkurro

More than killing time: between politics and popcultur

there are many tv- series at the moment, which seem to be highly politically motivated. Shows like true blood or weeds question the ideological belief, crash is thematising injustice in modern societies and dexter - well - that's a case of it's own. but these shows don't seem to be that different from shows like californication or chuck, for example. shows which do not seem to be political, but creating a world where the sleazy men and nerds take over the world.

this is quite refreshing than most of that ideological hollywood junk (which i still like). especially that charming and unpretentious way of chuck and pushing daisies, where you'll be part of a world, full of beauty, peace (well, more or less) and togetherness, seems quite like the place to be, comparing to reality...
