Movie Talk

Okay, so last night I was at level 13, 92%. This morning, all of a sudden, I'm Level 14 (Autobot), 26%! I don't know what happened overnight, but it's probably because I rewrote the About me section, added a photo (sorta :D ) and wrote two reviews... But still, 34 percent??

So, like I said, this time around I'll be talking about the movies I saw and the books I read... Well, mostly about movies... And before I start, I'll say one more thing: I loved all of them  Mostly because I chose them carefully, I went to IMDb.com, read the reviews, saw the rating and decided... And I didn't love all of them because that's what everyone's saying and I can't have a normal opinion - I really, really liked 'em :D

I mentioned this one earlier, but I didn't say a lot - Superbad. That was the first movie I saw since, like summer :D And that was a month ago  I was so into watching TV shows that I forgot movies existed... But that was actually a great thing, cause now I have a lot of catching up to do :D Okay, Superbad. It was awesome. And so dirty, and so nasty, and so so funny  Old people and mostly conservative and old fashioned people will hate it, and probably complain about it, but that's just the way people make comedies these days...

Superbad

When's the last time we had a really funny Robin Williams family movie, like Mrs. Doubtfire? It's all about cursing, and sex and drugs and alcohol - but I don't mind it, I loved Superbad just as much as I loved Knocked up... And what's really great about it, they actually made a two.hour movie out of nothing, I mean what's the plot? Three guys trying to get to a party? Huh??

Okay, next up - Stardust. I actually read the book first (I'll talk about it later :D ) and then saw the movie. Of course, the book is much better, but still, the movie was great, one of the best based-on-a-book movies :D The acting was great, the chemistry was there, Robert de Niro was brilliant and hilarious, and visually, the movie was wonderful... It's like a movie version of Pushing Daisies :D (still, PD is better :D )... However, they didn't put a few key characters in the movie and the storyline is a bit different, but it's still great...

Stardust

The next movie I saw was The Heartbreak Kid... This is actually my least favorite movie from the ones I saw this past month but it's still a nice comedy... I loved the storyline, and the ending was hilarious, with Eva Longoria showing up...

Then, one of, if not the best movie I saw in 2007 - No country for old men. I mentioned it in my last post, and also put a picture of Javier Bardem. I still can't get him out of my head - that man gives me the creeps  He was absolutely perfect as the bad guy, and it's really funny because it's not supposed to be a horror movie, yet I've never been so scared and excited watching a movie

NCFOM

So, the movie is about this guy from Texas (at first he looks like some stupid farmer or whatever, but it turns out he's quite smart) who stumbles upon this money from a drug deal gone really bad... So he takes it, and unleashes a storm of bad events... Not only are the bad guys chasing him but the town sheriff as well, played by Tommy Lee Jones, who was also perfectly cast... The movie has so little dialogue, and the mixture of visual effects (if you want to call them effects) and sounds is just mindblowing... I still can't stop thinking about the movie... The only thing kinda dissapointing was the ending... It ended like The Sopranos

Next, we have a comedy :D Enchanted, of course  I'm kinda too old for the movie, but it was still delightful and funny... It does a pretty good job mixing adult humor and kid humor... It's not like there's anything dirty in it, but for example, there's this scene where the little girl tells the soon-to-be princess: "You don't want to put to much makeup on. -Why? -You know why, because boys are only after one thing. -What's that? - I don't know, no one will tell me." I loved that :D The songs are catchy, the acting is great - Amy Adams was so convincing as Giselle, I mean, I was amazed... You know, her cartoonish faces and body language... Not in a bad way, but it just felt like you took a cartoon princess and put her on the streets of New York, just like it happens in the movie... :D

Enchanted

After a Disney comedy, I went back to watching westerns... This time it was 3:10 to Yuma... The movie is about a well-known criminal who was captured and is being taken to this train station (and the train is supposed to take him to prison), but the station is far away and the criminal's followers and out there searching for revenge and trying to get their leader back... The first 15-20 minutes actually bored me to death, but I said, okay, I'm not going to stop watching just because the beginning is boring... And it payed off... The movie really becomes great towards the middle, and there's a lot of shooting, and the scene at the end where Christian Bale is trying to get the prisoner (Russell Crowe) on the train but the prisoner's men are shooting at him, was really, really well-made and exicting... The end was dissapointing, kinda predictable, but it didn't ruin the whole movie...

The last movie I saw was Once... I've been hearing for months now how Once is a wonderful movie, how great it is, but still, I was never really interested in it... But, I simply decided to give it a shot, and thank God, it payed off... It's such a simple movie, with such a simple story, a guy playing a guitar on the streets meets an immigrant who needs her vacuum-cleaner fixed, and it turns out the guy's father owns a vacuum cleaner shop where they fix them... It sounds corny, but it's so cute, and so different, I loved it...

Once

What was also great was that we never found out their names... In the end credits, it just says "guy" and "girl"... And after he fixes her vacuum cleaner, they get to knoe each other and decide to record an album, because she play the piano - and the music was great... Tha guy really knows how to sing and play, and they make a great duet (even though they did record the album as a band)... It was a short movie (80min) but it was really special, different, enjoyable and unforgettable... You could say it was like a modern musical that tells the innocent story of two people that fall in love... Nothing actually happened between them, but in the end... Well, I'm not saying anything :D

That's it... Next on my must-see list are Before the devil knows you're dead (I actually started watching it, so far so good :D ), Good luck Chuck, Eastern promises, 30 days of night, Wristcutters: A love story and Sweeney Todd :D

Books? Well, I only read two and a half  Like I said, I'm not a fast reader, and I don't read as much as I watch movies/TV shows... The first one I read was, like I mentioned earlier Stardust (Neil Gaiman)... I really, really enjoyed it, and even though it seems like a children's fantasy book, there is a hint of vulgarity and cursing... Neil Gaiman (on the picture) is a great writer, I'm actually reading American Gods right now... That's the "half" in two and a half books :D

Neil Gaiman

The second one is Mario Puzo's The Family... It actually took me like, two weeks to read it, but it was good... I haven't really read any history novels before, but I liked it a lot... Yes, it was kinda boring sometimes, and maybe it was a little too long, but it was a nice read...

So, that's it... TV shows are returning next week, finally, and January is at least going to look somewhat like the fall... Not even close, but at least a little bit  I already looked thorugh the schedules, Tuesdays (The Biggest Loser, One Tree Hill, Idol, Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal, SVU), Wednesdays (Power of 10, Cashmere Mafia, Idol, Criminal Minds) and in Febraury Thursdays (Survivor, Idol (sometimes), Eli Stone, Lost, Lipstick Jungle) are going to be the best days... Unfortunately, Mondays, my favorite day this fall, is going to be kinda weak... But, the awards season is here: People's choice awards, Critics' choice awards, The Golden Globes - they're here :D Really excited! :D So, see ya soon! :)
