Well, now look at what I did! :P

Finally I was able to do it. I wrote a review! YAY! Well, too bad that it was for a crappy show (Metalocalypse's the name). I'll try and get my thoughts together and probably write some more reviews. Probably about Sinchronicity (my new best friend) but I want to hold up for the last episode.

Hey, if you aren't watching Sinchronicity, you should!

Anyways, like I have nothing better to do (study is the other option) I went to the movies and I saw a bunch of films. Most notably Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and Miami Vice. While I can't recall the show that has the same name as the second film, I found it pretty bland. I like Collin Farrell, I like Jamie Foxx and I like Michael Mann. But I didn't enjoy the film. It's not a bad one, mind you, but regarding movies, lately I put my expectation very high.

And those expectations were surpassed with the Pirates of teh Caribbean 2. Johnny Depp is such a wonderful, talented and diverse actor that every movie he enters is a must see (even Willy Wonka, which I didn't like one bit). The ending left me a little cold but I laughed so much throughout the film that it didn't bothered me much.

Today I'll go and see Romances and Cigarettes, by John Turturro, with James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet and others. I was intrigued by the sinopsys, because it said it was a musical and I haven't seen one in ages (Moulin Rouge was the latest and I didn't watch Chigaco - can't stand Richard Gere!).

See you next time and go watch Sinchronicity. You'll feel better afterwards ;)

Later today I'm going to the movies. August in Lisbon is such a bummer, because there's nothing to do. Most of my friends are away and the others are working. I had planned to go to the beach today but woke up with a headache so that's a no-go. And since the tv doesn't air anything good, the movies are all that's left. And I'll probably pull a double-session. Miami Vice and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest are the most likely choices.

Vacations? Not anymore. It's back to work for me

Well, I just arrived home after being with some friends of mine up north, in a small, quiet and wornderful village. I had a great time.

Staying Alive in Edison

Those were the two films that I went to see yesterday and today, Stay Alive and Edison.

The first one, like I expected, was nothing short of predictable. I don't know why they evne bother doing films like this one. Does anyone really get scared watching these anymore?

The second I liked more (yeah, I know, it's not difficult, but bear with me). I was pleasently surprised with Juntin Timberlake's acting. While nothing amazing or spectacular, he did a decent job, even though his character wasn't a difficult one. Was really upset me was how Mos Def character managed to single-handedly take out an entire squad of FRAT members. I mean, they are supposed to be the best guys around and they are able to miss Mos and Justin after firing thousands of rounds. And then, when they have then cornored, they suddenly forget how things are done and rush in. Grenades anyone? No, didn't think so. Oh well, at least it's not a major point, so I wasn't really bothered by it.

I still want to watch The Lake House, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, The Protector (or as I like to call it, Ong-Bak 2), Candy, Poseidon, Happy Endings and Strings. I wasn't able to watch Hard Candy so I'll have to rent it. Heard good things about the female lead.

P.S. I almost forgot. I also managed to watch Lucky Number Slevin and I liked it a lot. It reminded me of Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang, a movie that is probably one of the most entertaining that I ever saw.

Cya next time!

What do you know?!

Yeah, I know, it's weird. I don't post for ages and in the same day I post twice? Weird I tell you. But I saw something on SweetPeaSurry's that I found pretty funny and decided to post it here. Hope that's ok with her.

On with the show!

Well, it sure has. When I decided to do this, I had in mind posting more often. Like I said in the first post, after I read a book, went to see a movie or watch some episodes of some series. Well, how flaws are so easy to find...

Anyway, here are some tidbits about some stuff I've seen recently. On with the show!

1- I've spent an unbelievable week in Alicante, Spain with some friends of mine in an international summercamp. Made new friends, met some people, had a great time. Too bad that I couldn't go to the beach because I underwent surgery on my left foot. Oh well, at least now it's all good, healing well.

2- I haven't been able to go to the movies this month, but I managed to catch Lucky Number Slevin (liked it), An American Haunting (not really scary) and later today I'll go and watch Stay Alive. Not really expecting nothing, though. I'm a really huge horror film fan and it's a pity that nowadays they can't do anything good.

3- Regarding the series, here's what I'm currently watching:

a) Blade - rally enjoying this action series. Reminds me of the movies.

b) Aquaman - watched the pilot and I'm eagerly waiting for more. Huge DC fan!

c) Brotherhood - this reminds me of The Sopranos and I'm enjoying it.

d) Eureka - interesting regarding the gadgets and inventions that might appear but if I miss an episode I'll keep on living.

e) Angela's Eyes - much like Eureka, only that the subplot/mystery is a little more interesting.

f) Heroes - do I really need to comment? Come on, I'm a comic book reader/fan!

g) Jericho - it will be interesting to see how Jericho's population will react.

h) Our Thirties - I liked the pilot, especially the british guy.

i) The Class - thought it could have been better.

j) Shark - kind of like House, but a little bit lighter.

k) Angriest Man in Suburbia - I LOVED this. Really, REALLY LOVED it!

l) The Nine - the pilot got me stuck to the chair with interest. Looking forward to more.

m) I still have to catch up on Windfall, Whistler, and I still have to check the pilots of Secrets of a Small Town, Sinchronicity, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The Singles Table and Traveler. If someone saw them already please post your thoughts (feel free to chime in on the other series)

4- Next up: I might be away for a couple more weeks, enjoying the Summer, hanging with my friends and having a good time. When I have more time, I'll try and send some reviews to the site. 'Till then, enjoy the Summer! Cheers.

A little update

Well, I've been busy as hell! Exams, exams and some more exams... One today (in 2 hours) and one tomorrow, my last ones this year (next ones will be in September"). Really frustrating when you study hard and fail, but that's life.

Anyway, the past week I went to the movies and I saw Take the Lead and The Chumscrubber. The first one I LOVED and the second one... well, it's not that I hated it, it's more that I loath it LOL. Can't quite explain it since I never quite understood what the director wanted to go with the movie. Nor any of the 6 friends who went with me to see it :D

I've also finished reading Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything (hey, I'm an Economics student) and I found it bland. Interesting and a new way to look at Economics but bland nonetheless. Next up, I'll try finishing 1984 (George Orwell) and The Dark Tower Book 1 - The Gunslinger (Stephen King).

Sunday I'm going to my cousin baptism, so that leaves Saturday to catch up on some shows.

Cheers and until next time!

Introduction

Let's get this started.

My name is Nuno and I'm from Lisbon, Portugal. At the age of 24, I'm currently trying to graduate in Economics (one more year left! YAY!!).

As you can see from my favorite shows, I'm a fan of the sci-fi genre (couple of shows still left in that list) and if you recognize the image that's my avatar you can also see that I'm a huge comic book fan (reader, not collector - I hate those!).

In this blog you will find some thoughts on recent episodes I've seen as well as movies, books (comics or otherwise) and every other thing I'm in the mood to write about. Don't expect a lot of personal stuff about me because I'm not such an interesting person that anyone would want to read about me. If you want to know something, it's easier to ask it.

Anyway, the next update is cheduled for next week's end. I'm in the middle of final term exams and I still have two (at least) to do, so I better get to study. It's a hard task, since there are a lot of shows that I still have to catch-up on and the episodes keep pilling on and on... Oh well, Summer is upon us and I have 2 months of relaxing and cooling off where I can put them all in order.

That's all for now. See you next time. Cheers!
