I would definitely go for Guild Wars.  It's an excellent game and you don't have to pay a monthly fee. I myself won't touch WoW with a ten foot pole.

If you've finished the main quest, are the head of every faction, completed all the sidequests, found all the unique items, and explored every dungeon, only then have you truly beaten a game like oblivion, and thats what I love about it :D.

Try Diablo 2 and D2; LOD, Baldurs Gate games, or Planescape; Torment, or if you want to go really old-school, try Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and maybe Zelda;A Link to the Past.  Actually, probably the easiest game to get into is TESIV; Oblivion. It's very easy to play, very small learning curve. Gotta have a good PC or 360 to play it though.  Also you could try the Knights of the Old Republic games. They were pretty innovative and easy to play.

I'd go for Oblivion, especially with the new expansion pack coming out, which looks awesome.  Of course, Mass Effect aint out yet...
