Dear Slant Six,
Since the release of the new trailer for the upcoming; Socom: Confrontation, the Socom portion of the Gamebattles forums has created quite the buzz. Many users have already rejected the new title, some calling it a "demo that looks more like the bastard child of S3 and Ghost Recon with a prettier coat of paint than a legit heir to the S1 legacy." Although I don't agree with what everyone is saying, I'm still hoping for the ****c Socom 1, and Socom 2, map **** gameplay, and most of all fun factors. Socom 3 and Combined Assault was progression that went terribly wrong and as the new developers of the Socom series, we would love to see a revision and most of all the same thing from Socom 1 and Socom 2 that made it worth playing.
As the Gamebattles dot com Forums user's request:
Maps - As 2/3rd's of the socom community, GB would like to see closed quartered maps such as the original s1 and s2 maps like crossroads, desert glory, fish hook, and other legendary maps that made the game addictive. The whole huge gigantic 8 million pixel maps are for lack of a better word BORING!
Game Modes - We liked the idea of being able to play different game modes on any particular map BUT we think suggest that in order to make that happen successfully you need to design a map for one particular game mode and THEN and only THEN if you say to yourself "hey this would be a great place to put a bomb at THEN you can make it a demolition (vice versa in terms of control, convoy, escort, and others. But the problem you made designing maps to fit every game mode is that it drew a lot of glitches and also it made a lot of maps uneven. So please design every map at the start for just one game mode and then if you notice where a good place for hostages or a bomb or vips then you can do so.
Guns - Now not to just throw a percentage our their but I'll say 95% of the Socom community was terribly disappointed with the way guns shot in Socom 3 and combined assault, every gun shoots like the HK and the recoil and every thing has just gotten ridiculous. We Miss the way the m4a1's and ak 105s shots in Socom 2, we even miss the way the m14 shot. So PLEASE and we repeat PLEASE bring the way the guns shot in SOCOM 2. This is a really big concern for us maybe one of the biggest so I'm going to stress it again, PLEASE BRING BACK THE WAY THE GUNS SHOT IN SOCOM 2. Also, please fix the audio of the guns shooting so that when you shoot one bullet it sounds like you shot one bullet, not two.
Hit Detection - I've heard people say the hit detection in Socom 1 was the best they've ever seen, I've even heard people talk about the hit detection in Socom 2 being good... but Socom 3 and Socom combined assault, I've heard nothing positive about the hit detection. Suggestion? Make the hit detection for Socom confrontation in between of what it was in Socom 1 and Socom 2 and then you can't go wrong. If you get hit 3-5 times you should die plain in simple. One shot in the head, you're dead. Slant six, please take this into consideration.
Sure shot - We want it back baby. The original sure shot of socom 2, made the game challanging and added to the addiction.
Amount of players - 8v8 was the perfect ****for the maps in Socom 1 and Socom 2. Lag and Frame rate issues ruined the idea of 16 versus 16 and therefore made it unbearable to play large maps with horrible FPS issues. 8v8 with medium **** maps are perfect.
Guns - Make sure the guns are even, meaning that the terrorist weapons are just as good as the Seal weapons. For every good gun on the Seal team, include a gun equal to it on the terrorist team. Please don't include a "super gun" which is usually only on one team and ends up getting banned, by the community, from being used anyway. Examples of this are the IW-80-A2 in Socom II and the F90 in Socom 3.
Grenades - Only problem we had with grenades in Socom 3 and combined assault was they weren't realistic. These grenades are pinballs. You throw a grenade off a wall and it ricochets off 20 walls at about 90 mph, it's ridiculous. Again, bring back the socom 2 and 1 feel to the game and make the grenade weight heavier so that we can get rid of all the bounciness. Other than that, - Keep grenades how they've always been, the only thing to improve is the actual explosion. Instead of the having the same generic explosion, have it actually damage the ground where it lands. As far as quantity, 9 grenades in Socom 2 was too much and 2 grenades was to little. A good amount? 6
Quick Sniping - Take out the ability to "quick snipe". This is when you are able to move your sniper crosshairs around while in mid air and shoot your opponent when you land back on the ground. This gets extremely annoying, not to mention how unrealistic it is.
Supression Gametype - The suppression game type...this is extremely important. Please make it so if both teams still have at least one member alive at the end of the round, it is a draw, not a win for the team with more players alive. Making it so the team with more players wins encourages players to camp and slows down the pace of the game dramatically.
Next, we have some of our smaller, less important suggestions. Nevertheless, it would be great for these things to be included.
Scopes - Do not allow powerful scopes on rifles and do not provide too much foliage in any map.
Interactive Environment - Don't overdo it on the "interactive environment" kind of thing, we could see it becoming a nuisance if there is too much of it. Definitely include more of them, but just don't, in a sense, "cross the line".
Dead - When you're dead, let the switching back and forth from different character screens be quick like on Socom 2. Furthermore, please let us be able to view our teammates' crosshairs while we are dead. If they are sniping, also let us see through their scope.
Over the Shoulder View - If this is still possible, please change the view back to the regular, 3rd person view, like in previous Socom games. Just because games like Gears of War and Ghost Recon have adapted this new viewing method, doesn't mean that the SOCOM franchise has to follow.
ACTION, ACTION, ACTION - This is the BIGGEST problem we had with the last two games in the Socom series. There isn't any action! The huge maps with open fields caused nothing but a gigantic camp fest. Get rid of the whole idea, whoever has the most soldiers left when the time is out idea. It caused nothing but camping. Again, closed quartered maps should solve this problem.
So please take these thoughts into consideration as you plan the next Socom title, thank you so much for reading our suggestions and we're all looking forward to your response.
