Actually its true, first proven by Edwin Hubble who showed that galaxies that were significantly away from our own had a shift in spectrum (known as redshift) that indicates they are moving away. This has been studied and observed since. In fact in 1999 by looking at type 1A supernovae, astronomer have now shown that the expansion of the universe was actually lower in the past which means that the rate of expansion of the universe is increasing.
But as to whether the universe is expanding or not, you'll need to overcome the last century's worth of consistent observations that say it is!
SOrry but proving that 2 rubber duckies in a bathtub are moving apart from one another, doens't prove that the bathtub is expanding....

Or in other words.... I can fill my house with people... and those people can move farther and closer to other people.... but that doesnt mean my house in expanding. Besides.... just because a scientist says its true, doesnt make it so.
your analogy is why off. lets say we have 5 rubber duckies and a vast ocean. the 5 rubber duckies are the galaxies and together they are called the universe . the ocean is just space or emptiness as the duckies move away from each other we can say the universe is expanding cause we don't count ocean is just spaceedit - i responded to this topic in the ot :
the big bang is real it just until recently people have been stuck in explaining the singularity. at first it was believed there was a point were the all the matter in the universe was one , the singularity, when the singularity itself could not be explained. the come along theory know as "m" theory or membrane theory, in this theory there 11 dimensions idk them all my self, i know 5 , up and down, left and right, backwards and forwards, space, and time.
the last dimension is where the membrane that binds all o universe exists. there are other universes in the 11th dimension and when of these membranes( universes) collide the form "big bangs". so that's all i know. it sounds a little crazy but the explanation for the big bang.
