Originally a PSP game in 2007 Crush makes it's way onto the Nintendo 3DS. Crush3D has a playable demo released on the Nintendo Eshop for anyone who wants to experience one of the PSP's more innovative puzzle titles to have been played.
You can play the game for about 30 uses before the game expires.
The storyline follows Danny who is suffering with insomnia. His Doctor uses an experimental device to explore Danny's mind and discovers the cause of his sleeplessness. The dialogue is well written dispute that there's no voicework in the 3DS version aside from a few grunts and screams.
In the playable demo you have 4 levels to play through with the first one being the games tutorial which explains the mechanics. This demo will take about roughly 10 minutes to beat through but during the stages you can find some extra items which can unlock extra stuff in the game.
The object of the game is too grab the maximum of marbles that are scattered all over the map. Marbles range from Blue marbles which give you 1 point, purple ones give you 3 points and red which give you 10 points. When you collect about half the points the portal opens in which you'll access the next level of the game.
The controls are easy to learn for the most part. Circle pad controls your movement while the D-pad controls the camera. A Jumps, X can push obstacles out of the way and finally Y can launch hints if you ever get stuck on a puzzle. Please note that it does stop you from beating the Level with a perfect rating.
One of the most important aspect of the game is Crushing. This is done by pressing the L button to switch between both 2D and 3D perspectives. This is a lot like Super Paper Mario on Wii where you had to constantly swap between 2D and 3D. You can Crush from either side of the level so that you reach the next platform and also you can switch between anytime and still remain on the same platform that you were before. You will have to experiment with the Crushing mechanics from the correct side as using it on the wrong side will squish you and return you back to 3D. You can also use these actions on the Stylus but however the game feels much easier with the Circle Pad and the Buttons. The Gameplay looks really fun to play and in my opinion this is way more fun then Super Paper Mario on the Wii.
I never seen the original version on the PSP but however the 3DS version looks has pretty good graphics and it looks well done with the 3D Slider on. The Soundtrack and the sound effects does sound quite good and I already mentioned that there is no voice acting aside from the grunts and screams.
Crush3D is actually a pretty fun puzzle game. I'm not really into puzzles aside from Tetris and Angry Birds but maybe if I ever got my hands on this game maybe I'll find out if this game holds up for Nintendo's 3D hand held system.
Although it's pointless for me to post my first impressions playing the demo due to the games already out but I'm doing this to show off my opinions on playing it.
