Reality TV = BAD BAD YUCK BAD

< RANT >

I'm tired of all the reality TV that's on these days! It's taking OVER!! I don't like it and I refuse to watch. One or two I can handle - in fact, most of the time I really enjoy The Amazing Race, and Survivor has its interesting moments. But any more than that I REFUSE to watch. I don't care about people singing or losing weight or living in a house or stars dancing or dads competing with other dads. The ideas for these shows just get more and more ridiculous. YUCK YUCK BAD YUCK BAD BAD. Take a look at the listings for tonight. Reality TV has TAKEN OVER. :x Again I say - I REFUSE TO WATCH!!!!!

Sorry about that. I know some people really like some of those shows. BUT I DON'T.

Lost season 4!

I'm counting down the days until the start of Lost season 4! I will have watched all of the season 3 DVDs by then, so everything will be fresh in my mind.

Also while I'm waiting, I'm trying to bump Lost up the list at TV_Vote. I want to be able to vote for Lost in the Top 40 there, but there is a LONG way to go until then. I'm surprised more Lost fans don't get into the "vote every hour" aspect of it. It isn't every 108 minutes, but close. And you could vote every 108 minutes if you wanted to. :)

I'm also looking forward to the new seasons of Monk and Psych starting this coming Friday!

Interrobang!?

Have you heard of the interrobang‽ I've just been catching up on the Grammar Girl podcast and she mentioned it in her podcast about punctuating questions. There is also a very interesting article about the interrobang on Wikipedia. I don't know how often I would use it, but I think it's fun to know about.

The Grammar Girl podcast is just what it promises - quick and dirty tips on grammar. I think it's become more interesting over time. Two other recent Grammar Girl podcasts that I found interesting are: "Ellipses" and "Spoonerisms, Mondegreens, Eggcorns, And Malapropisms." Very fun!

I also subscribe to Podictionary and Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, but if you are going to listen to very many short podcasts like these I suggest setting up a Playlist so you can play one right after another -especially if you're like me and can't keep up with them on a daily basis.

Probably my favorite word-related podcast is KPBS A Way with Words. Not only is it very entertaining, but you're learning interesting facts about words and their origins at the same time. Uh-oh, am I showing my geeky side‽ Well, I am a librarian so I guess I'm allowed. :)

(Note: Did you see that I used the interrobang twice above‽ I would have used it in the title as well, but it wouldn't let me.)

Holy Level 10, Batman!

I finally made it to level 10!  Seems like I was on level 9 for forever!  I know I could submit more and post more, but even when I do make submissions they don't seem to make much difference. In fact, the past three times I've had submissions accepted, I haven't moved up at all that day. It's a bit discouraging.  So I'm happy to be on a new level!  I'll have to make more submissions and see if I can't move through this level a bit more quickly.

Favorite TV podcasts

I am completely addicted to The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack!  It's always the first podcast I listen to when there is a new episode.  It's been great lately since Lost is having a new episode every week.  But I love listening to Jay and Jack even when they aren't talking about Lost.  During the Lost hiatus I caught up on all the episodes of the Jay and Jack RambleCast on their AAC feed.  Now I need to go back and catch up on all the episodes from the beginning.  As I said, I'm addicted.  I highly recommend The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack to all Lost fans!

I also love listening to The Signal and Firefly Talk.  The Signal was my first podcast ever!  Since there are so few episodes of Firefly and only one Serenity movie, it was great to find a new way to continue experiencing the 'verse!  You can't stop the Signal!

I listen to several other TV-related podcasts, but I'll talk about them in another blog sometime.

Medium Online

They DO have episodes of Medium on NBC.com.  Yea!  I should have looked sooner.  I wouldn't have had to miss any episodes once Lost started airing at a later time.  They only had the two latest episodes.  Great ones, though!  I'm still deciding whether Medium is a show I will eventually buy on DVD.  My rule is that it has to be a show I want to watch more than once - unless it's insanely inexpensive.  I really like the family stuff in the show, but not sure I would want to watch episodes again and again.  It would be great to catch up on all the first season episodes I didn't watch, though.

Network Scheduling Rant

My first blog post here at TV.com:

Why do they schedule all the shows I want to watch on the same night & time - or on a night I seldom get to watch TV?  I have trouble catching Amazing Race now that they've moved it to Sundays.  And last night, there was NOTHING on that I wanted to watch on network TV.  I ended up watching The Closer and an old Cold Case on TNT that I hadn't seen before, then Ace of Cakes and Throwdown with Bobby Flay on Food Network.  I would have liked to watch Gilmore Girls, but didn't want to watch a re-run. Other than that, they weren't offering anything I wanted to watch.  Tonight I would have loved to be able to watch both Medium and Lost.  Now that Lost is scheduled for later, I have to choose because with our satelite you can't watch one thing and tape another.  I have just not been happy with the network schedules lately.

I was happy to find full episodes of Numb3rs on CBS.com, though!  Now I can keep up on episodes I miss.  I need to go see if they offer full episodes of Medium online.
