The Introduction
For some months now, the PS3 has been released. It was made by Sony to compete with the other 2 Next Gen systems, the Wii and the Xbox 360. The PS3 has had horrible success. It has very few sales ( compared to the Wii and/or Xbox). Sony has been scarred, money wise. They have lost a lot of money from developing this new console. Their profit is really slim compared to the amount of money they spent on creating, developing, and reproducing the system. It seems to me that no one is buying this system because of one main reason, but we will get back to that a little later. What can Sony do? Can they redo the mess they have created? Like a wise man once said only time will tell, but exactly how much time does the PS3 have left. At these rates, not very much.
The Problem
The problem is quite simple. Not many people can afford this game console on their average salaries. Even few hardcore gamers dare to buy this. This is the main cause that is killing off the sales. The PS3 has some features worth the money, like Blu-Ray player and new era gameplay. Sony has to start thinking like a sales person. The customer is always right, and if the customers don't want to pay so much money for your product, then the sales will go down... and soon you will be out of business.
The Solution
Simple questions get simple answers and it does not get any simpler then lowering the price of the PS3 and see if that effects the prices. Experts predict that it would take about a $200 price reduction to heal the open wounds of the Playstation 3, and Sony. That can be hard to deal with if you are an executive with Sony, but more sales, more money and higher the prices, less sales which means less money. It can sometimes be hard to cope with dropping a new consoles price that far. I don't expect them to drop the price that much in the near future. All Sony needs to do is drop the price, bit by bit so it will finally be a best-seller to the crowd.
Predictions
At this rate, I would think that the PS3 will be completely cut off in the next 3 years, if something is not done. Right now Sony has dug itself in such a deep hole that they will need more then a simple shovel to dig their way out. They need something innovative, creative, and maybe a tad crazy. It could possibly turn a Worst Case Scenario into a Golden Opportunity. Like the Gamecube, the plug is going to be pulled on this system if it does not fix its errors.
